Put a dvd or cd in the drive. Can you see files on the disk, when you open it from My computer. If so the drive is working but you dvd player software is not.
If you cant read files on the disk.
Right click on the drive, properties, hardware, click on the drive, properties, driver, Update driver.
If it is you software.
Uninstall and reinstall.

Good Luck

chances are it is the driver, if you have the original disk that came with it I would try reinstalling it. if not then you can try downloading it off of the internet. it could also be an issue with the decoder if you dont have the proper dvd decoder then that could also be an issue, this can also be downloaded off the internet. just do a google search on windows xp dvd decoder. my best advice to you is finding your driver disk for the dvd rom drive and reinstalling it. good luck!

hmm. if it isnt working maybe buying a new one is better or you can reinstall the device because maybe something got uninstalled or installed that limits your dvd.

if you still have the driver for the dvd player, you must re-install them.
