With rights come responsibilities. They go hand-in-hand. What responsibilities do the teens have?

I know that it's possible for a 16 year old to be responsible for themselves, even though most are not. I left home and went on my own at 16 (I mistakenly married a man who decided not to work for a living). I worked, paid rent and utilities, kept my own home, did yard work, and went to school. I had no one to do my laundry for me, provide food for me, pay for my car insurance or repairs, or to help me out if I got into a bind. I had to keep a tight budget and time was precious. So, yes, I know it can be done. But the majority of people that age aren't prepared for the heavy responsibilities of being an adult.

If a teen wants to take on the responsibilities of being an adult, then I agree that they should have the rights that go along with it. But how do you make a new law that will distinguish between the few truly responsible ones and the majority that are too immature to handle adult rights and responsibilities? We already have laws of emancipation in much of the US.

I think if they get the rights adults get then they should be treated like an adult - get a job, pay bills, pay taxes, do a crime go to prison. there is much more to being adult then having a little more freedom. I give everything i own to be able to go back home and live on someones dime and not have the worry of life. don't be in such a hurry to grow up I promise when you get there you will wish some day to go back and well that most likely isn't going to happen.

Hell NO!!! They already get driver licenses way too early, always hearing about another "tragic" idiot teen wrapping a car around a tree.

Grow up, give yourself a chance, don't be in a hurry, you will be saddled with responsibility and obligations soon enough.

It is within the law of man that they should reach the age of maturity first before giving them the full right of independence. and below tht age, they are under the supervision of thier parents, supposed to be, whats wrong?

Teen pregnancies are up, dropout rates are up--This is responsible?

No. Kids are still stupid. Unfortunately, they just have to deal with more now. That DOESN'T make them more responsible.

And for the girl above me, yeah, me too, but I was still just a kid.
