In NC they make a copy of your drivers license no matter how old you look. No legal proof, no tattoo.

The exact laws on what age people have to be in order to get tattooed do vary from place to place. In the UK, for example, you have to be 18, and there's no exemptions to this law even if parents would allow their children to get tattooed at a younger age.

Again, the exact procedure each tattoo studio has to ensure they don't break the law will vary. But I'd be surprised if any reputable artist just took someone else's word for it that a customer who looked too young was 'really' 18. I mean, how could they be sure it was really the person's parents, and not just some random adult they'd roped in to coming to the tattoo studio with them? I'm not saying no studio would ever do this - dodgy ones might. But any good studio would want to see ID for anyone they were even slightly uncertain about. It's one of those situations where if an under 18 can convince a tattoo artist to do it, it's proof that it would really be better not to go to that tattoo artist.

Hope this makes sense!

While the legal age of consent is 18, some shops will tattoo a minor if the parent signs a consent form. It's not that the parents is lying about your age, it is that they are telling the artist 'okay, if anything goes wrong, I'm not going to hold you responsible, because I said he could do it'.

Most shops hold firm on the 18 years rule, because the chance of a lawsuit could cost them more than what they might make off of tattooing minors. However, some shops will, especially if you know the artist. My boyfriend got 2 of his 4 tattoo's before he turned 18.

His first one was at 16, and his mom went to the shop with him, and then she signed the form and left. For the second one, she signed a form saying (basically) 'any time my kid has the money for it, you have my permission to tattoo him' because she didn't want to have to keep going back.

With me, I got my first tattoo the day after I turned 18, and the shop that I go to will not tattoo anyone under 18, even if is the day before their birthday. I'm 21 now, and at the beginning of this month I got my 7th tattoo, and next Friday I'm going in to let their apprentice do a small one on me.

If your parents OK getting the tattoo then you can get one if they are present at the time. If you say your 18 though then they will usually expect to see I.D. of some sort! If your 18 your parents have no control of you getting one so generally the tattoo artist is going to be suspicious if you need your parents to say your 18! Generally you would have a form of I.D. at that age too so you wouldn't need a witness for your age!

The only thing I can think of is ringing all your local ones and asking.

Ideally, though, I think you should not be allowed to have one until you're 18, parental consent or not!

What if you got septacaemia from a tattoo and you were under 18?! What would you do?

A friend of mine is a tattooist, he refuses point blank to do a tattoo for under 18s parents agreement or not. Even if he know he will lose the cash.

Mainly because you change alot and you would probably regret it, and he wouldn't want anyone regreting his hard work.

But if parent give approval you could have a tatto at 16.

In Britain it doesnt matter if parents consent or go with you - if you're under 18 its against the law.

If the parents of an under 18 take their child to get a tattoo its completely irresponsible, especially if they lie to the tattooist to get it done.

The age limit's there for a reason

no!!!!!!!!!! in the uk the law states that you must be over 18 to be tattooed there is no suchthingas parental consent when it comes to this even if your parents agree to you getting a tattoo it is still against the law for the tattooist to carry out the work but unfortunatly there are too many tattooists out there who only care about the money and will do the work anyway

Absolutely False. People will Lie....
If you live somewhere, that they will do a tattoo, before you are 18, you have to, have a birth certificate and parents with you. Your parents have to sign a waiver and prove you are their child. You have to be over 16 anyway, with picture ID.
Some people just gotta feel big, they will say anything.
Stay on the straight and narrow, cheating does not pay.

You are supposed to be 18 whether or not your parents give their permission. The tattoo shop could be in big trouble if a kid gets one and is under 18. They know not to take the chance of a lawsuit by the parents.

It's not true. Shops check ID. Depending on state law you can get them at 16 with parental consent but they have to be there while it's being done. People are just fooling with you ... Any shop that even considers that is not a good shop, who knows what other laws they go around just to make a buck? *shudders* Scary thought if you ask me!
