I think summer is better for an ankle/foot tattoo because you can wear sandals and shorts, so nothing will irritate it. But if you are outside a lot, you need sunscreen on it! I'm just not sure how long exactly you should wait before applying it, if there is even a waiting time.
Winter is good because you don't really have to worry about sunscreen, because it will be covered (if you live in a colder climate, like I do), and no one will see it when it's scabby and nasty. But then you are wearing more clothes, and it may irritate it and potentially rip off scabs.

Because you are the outdoors type I would not recommend getting one in the summer time. The sun is your tattoos worst enemy. The fall is probably the best. But, if you are getting it on your foot you may not be able to wear shoes for a few days. Just remember, whenever you get it done, once it is healed sun screen it to death before going outside in the spring/summer when the sun is killer.

I am currently working on becoming a tattoo artist and the thing we tell clients who come in during the summertime is that getting it done then is a bad idea because your tattoo hasn't healed and your going to want to show it off and since its not healed the tattoo will fade faster. Then the same thing can happen in the spring so I tell people to come early fall or mid winter.

You should probably wait until the winter months, sometime when you would wear clothes to cover it. I am getting a tattoo on my foot, but I am gonna wait until October, at least. I love being outdoors too, so I don't want to fade out my new tatt.

My son is a tattoo artist and would think anytime is good. The best place for a tattoo is a place that is normally covered. That way you can flaunt it when you want, and not be harmed by it otherwise. For women, ankles show, so on the foot is better. No one who hires people likes tattoos.

I say you should get it in the spring so that way when it's sumeertime and you are wearing flip-flops you can show it off. Also if you get it in the spring it won't hurt anymore by the time it's summer. I would say get it on the ankle because if you get it on your foot you won't be able to see it when you wear socks.

In the Spring or Fall is best.
(In the Winter your skin is dry from the cold air and th tattoo will be itchy. & In the Summer: its hot and sticky so it would feel itchy as well.

Reading your after care sheet
and taking good care of it ,
is more important than when
you get it. So, I would say the
best time to get one, is in the
"Season of Thinking."
