I am graduating from highschool in the Bronx, and I am trying to figure out what to talk about in my speech. I was valedictorian of my 8th grade class also, and I made a speech should I use some of the stuff from that speech too? Thanks

Valedictorian eh? Congratulations!!
Make sure to thank all of your teachers(they eat that stuff up). Also, thank your family and friends for all of their support. Then talk about all of the great times you had during your time in school even if you didn't have many. (quote specific events you share with your classmates:eg: remember that football game) Finally, remember the reason you are supposed to be up there speaking. As the best and brightest your school has to offer, it falls on you to inspire your classmates. Share some dreams and visions with them and implore them to join you in seizing the opportunities which await them in this world. It is OK to be cheesy and to speak from a perspective of authority. What you achieved is a testament to your hard work and intelligence. However, it is those who can bring others up through their presence and words which are truly great. Good luck and always remember this moment...because it will be a moment that you created.

p.s. don't tell them about being 8th grade valedictorian. If they don't remember it, this fact will alienate your audience and make you seem like a bragger. This will make your other statements less effective.

First, let's do some fun math. Figure out an average day of school by hours attended, times 5 (Mon-Fri), times 56 weeks (in a year). Subtract weeks off holidays and summer break. Then you should have a rather impressive total for one year. Now....multiply that times what.....four years high school....Ok....now you got a whopper of a total. Guess what??? That's roughly how much time YOU spent as a high school student---from first second as a Freshman to last second as a high school Senior on graduation eve.

Blows the mind, doesn't it?

"Today markes approximately (mathematical time breakdown in years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes and finally seconds) of time we spent from our first second as Freshmen to this exact moment--steps away from Graduation.

And the second we have in our hand the hard earned diploma of Graduation, the stopwatch begins counting off time we have to go forward and shape our lives into something seen in our dreams; planned well into our visions and set out to face challenges blocking our paths. Do we make good the time left we have......or do we waste it?"

It's an idea......but ultimately it's your call on what speech to resonate to the audience......good luck, hon!
