Are you insured by AIG? If not, it could be a fake promotional-advertisement check. AIG is an auto insurance company, and I'm sure they offer other types of insurance plans, too.

If you are insured by AIG, did you recently incur any medical bills due to a motor vehicle accident, work comp accident or an accident at home? Perhaps AIG is paying you directly rather than the source of the bills.

Did you get in car accident and wreck your car? Maybe they are reimbursing you for the damages.

Maybe you over-paid on your AIG premiums and they owe you a refund?

If you're talking about a different company that goes by the name of AIG then I can't help you.

Is there a telephone number that came with the check? You may want to call them and make sure the check truly belongs to you before you cash it... you wouldn't want to cash it and spend it and then have AIG say they paid you in error and ask you to refund them.

If there's no phone # on or with the check, then you may want to google some of the key words on the check like AIG + Guaranteed until you come up with a customer service tel# to find out what the check is for. If the check was issued by AIG then I'm guessing Wachovia won't be able to tell you what it's for.

AIG is a mulit-national insurance company. "Guaranteed" is a brand of life insurance that they offer. It is possible that you were the beneficiary of someone that recently passed away and didn't know it (but not likely).

If they were sending you a benefit check, they would include something in it to let you know what is going on. In fact, they would likely have contacted you prior to the check being issued to verify you and your address.

Here is a toll free number to call them: 1-800-387-9855
And a link to their site regarding the Guarantee program: http://www.aigassurance.ca/glp.asp?Ad_Id=WGOINKWSB00E

I would not do anything with the check until you verify it with someone. At a minimum, their should be bank information ont he check. If there is no address, then you can use the routing information on the bottom. Every bank has a routing number that indicates what bank the check is written on. Take the check to your bank and ask them for help to determine who the check is drawn on.

Good Luck!

Ok how old are you, these scams have been going on for years sure you'll get the money but now they know what bank and account number pulled money out of there account, in a turn around they will rip your bank account a new one by using the account number in another country where no one can track who is using them. try to search on the internet about bank scams.
