I guess because both of them are in general cheerful people.
I'm Italian and I don't know too many Indians but with the few I know I've a good feeling, exactly as you're posting in yr question. It's maybe even a matter of an higher tolerance about any kind of differences (race, religion, traditions, ect.) that's the heritage of an old dated culture that both,Italians and Indians, widely have.

Italians are just cool as hell. When I think of the typical white person, I'm not thinking Italian. Also, in America, Italians were treated just as bad as people of color by other white people in the past. In general, they tend to judge you on your abilities instead of your looks. And for some reason, Italians just seem to relate better than most people. You could talk to them about stuff you normally could only talk to other Indians about and it's like they understand.

i noticed that....wanna hear somethin funny tho? my mom is half Indian (Gujrati) n half Italian...so i know what u mean. im like a mix of both...but its true...a lot of Indians n Italians mix! but, when my mom was in high school (i seen her pics and her yearbook) she was BEAUTIFUL...and actually my moms 54 now, but she looks 30...so actually, the combo is good. but warning...both Indians and Italians can b hot tempered...so my mom is crazy...n im a madman, haha! but Indians n Italians are actually a lot alike. they both look alike, both act alike, n both h8 everyone who isnt one of them...so my mom got the double kick, n im all messed up, haha! a lot of Indians migrated to Italy, also...thats what happened with my family. and when my Indian ancestors left Indiia to europe, they ended up in Italy, 'mixed' in with the crowd n well, here i am ;-)

Um, Grease?
But seriously, send an Indian to Italy and see what kind of reception he gets-- not very good. "Italians" and Indians meeting in US, etc is a different story...perhaps
