He has an extremley good chance of winning the title. If he does not win the title it won't be because he did not give his best effort on the track. He has had the best car in half the races so far but has only one win. If the crew gives him great cars every week he will be up there with a realistic shot at his fifth championship. The title will come down between Gordon, Johnson, Stewart, Burton and Kenseth

With only 8 races so far this year he is running consistantly enough to win.
Now here's the big but--NASCAR's new way of doing the Chase-possibly the top 12 if #'s 11 and 12 are within a certain amount of points of #10 (what's with this?); then there's the 5000 point start off with 10 points per win (once again-what?). So this is just going to make all drivers race that much harder.

At the pace he is going, he might as well win it, he's been too consistent, and he picked up the win at Phoenix.
Hendrick and Gibbs are also really good with the Car of Tomorrow, and that could be a big factor in the Chase(COT races make up half of the Chase races I think), which will give Gordon more of an advantage, it will come down to Gordon, Johnson, Hamlin, and Stewart.

Well it is a good chance he will.Looking at this scenario,
Win at Phoenix(one of the places he has not won at)
Ties Dale Senior in wins.
Going to Talladega(where Dale Sr won the most events 10) if Gordon wins he breaks Seniors record.
Clear sailing to championship #5.
Perfect NASCAR scenario.

I dont want to jynx him but I think that hes going to. He has had great momentum this year and its just amazing how he has turned his year around and has had all these great finishes it was always there but he somewhat lost it the last few years and now hes back and wants that 5th Championship. In an interview he said he had 4 Winston Cup Titles/Trophies and said he knew because he has to look at them everyday, and he really wants to win a Nextel Cup Championship, so I think this is going to the his year for his 5th Championship but at this point its anyones game even though a few years ago the person in the points lead by the 8th race of the season was the guy that won the Championship later that year. So who knows it's anyones game. Go #24!!!!

With NASCAR's new Chase, anyone in the top-12 after Richmond can win the title.

I sure hope he can win it this year. He is very talented and one heck of a driver. He is also very competitive and I personally think he is a very nice guy. A lot of people are such idiots saying that he sucks as a driver and that he is gay. I think I can sum that 'BULL' up with just one little word -----JEALOUS. Oh yeah, check out the record books, they speak for themselves. So heres' hoping for a 5th championship for Jeff Gordon in 2007. Have an AWESOME year Jeff, you have earned it. FAN FOR LIFE!!!

Wow, it's awfully early for this kind of talk already.
I must say Hendrick teams are looking strong but so is Kenseths team. WOW.
Of course it doesn't amtter how you start out or how well you do throughout the season, the only thing that matters is the last 10 races.
