My mother has windows vista and it works just fine. Its got a much better interface. Its more current and their seems to be a lot more thought put into. Its better than xp when it comes to daily tasks that we deal with today. Its easier to do a lot of things like set up a network and manage media for example. I personally love it even after i set high hopes for it. But if your working fine with xp, i would wait until sometime around the fall. Xp has been out for so long that its seems like its integrated into our lives. Don't be to eager to make the switch, give the world of tech time to adapt to vista first, then make your move.

vista is a very good product. i bought an hp box with an amd X2 2.6ghz, 2gb ram for $700 and it runs very quickly. to set it up i had to plug it in, it recognized my internet and it was working without any effort on my part, which was amazing. in xp it took about 2 hours to get it working. it also recognized my laser printer and my ink jet all in one and they work just fine, once again all i did was plug them in. it is very quick. office 2007 is very nice also and took less than 10 min to install. amazing. my only complaint is the UAC which is the messages that ask you to validate everything. i am very impressed. so yes vista is good, i have yet to find any "bugs" that everyone says there are. the search function is also quite impressive and quick.
i personally wouldnt upgrade an existing machine from xp unless you got it free from the manufacturer. if you are buying a new machine it is worth it and preforms well.

Stick to XP unless you have things that reall needs Vista, its really a pointless exercise otherwise.

* overall better than xp

* but, if must have the right hardware, if not you have to spend hundreds of dollars to upgrade your PC

* 512 MB memory at least

* good graphic card, have "shader 3.0" feature etc.

* P IV 2 GHz at least

* anyway, in 2-3 yrs ahead, Microsoft's goin to release another OS

in conclusion, check your hardware first

NO, Don't waste your time. use XP if necessary or simply look for a free Linux Distro.
