Don't know ... mine just always seem to get in the way. I usually trim them once a week because I have a small child, and I would hate to scratch him.
Like someone else said, they do look pretty though. =)

I have always had this bad habit of biting my nails. There have been rare occasions when I tried to quit, so I actually had fingernails for a while.
But, when I had fingernails, the coolest advantages are:
1. Actually being able to pick up coins and small objects.
2. Scratching on a chalkboard.

I don't think there are real advantages to hving long fingernails... aside fro those already stated by those who previously answered your question.
I think having long fingernails is a culture thing("universal"). Like those women who put metal rings around their neck, so their men could call them beautiful. Society dictates, unconsciously that real women should have long well manicured fingernails...
For some chinese and malaysian men however, having long fingernail means LUCK... that is their belief...

To scratch my husband's back. ...or so he says.
they are also great screwdrivers! I also use mine to scrape off sticky tags that stores love to put on items.
....but only real nails. I just don't like the fake nails. They look fake and are not attractive to me. I wonder what the wearer is trying to cover up.

you can scrape potato chips so you can suck out all the leftovers from under your fingernails when you get hungry

its easier to pick your nose. & you can peel an orange and open a can of soda without whining. its also good when you need to scratch something.
