my uncle aunt and cousins live next door. Ever since we moved to this development together its like they had to have EVERYTHING we were planning to get. 1st off when we were picking house colors for our new houses, we told them what colors we wanted and they went out and got it.
1. my mom was planning on getting a tuscan kitchen.......
And all the sudden my aunt goes out and buys all tuscan stuff for her kitchen.
2. My step dad was thinking about getting a certain car and was talking to this car dealer about it.
A few days later the same car was in my uncle's driveway.
3. We were making plans 2 get our basement finished....
And then a week later my aunt and uncle have contractors at their house finishing the basement!
4. Finally my parents have been talking the past 2 weeks about getting a patio in the backyard. We had a guy over 2 give us a quote ....
Then, I go outside and there is a patio guy giving them a quote for the exact same design as we wanted!

We are starting to get REALLY MAD. Are we overreacting? How can we stop this copy cating??

I know the obvious answer is DONT TELL THEM... but its like we cant lie to them when they ask who was at our house the other day

maybe a little humor is needed. They sound like they like your taste. You could try giving them advance notice, like, "we are redecorating our kitchen, do you want the list now, or later"? I don't think you really can DO anything about them copying, unless you talk to them and have a great reason they can't copy. All they have to do is look in a window, visit, or peek over the fence.
I'd have a brief conversation with them just to let them know you didn't want to live in identical houses, and aren't super happy on it happening. Then I'd say, nothing ever again. They can then make their decision based upon your message to them about how you feel.

That's got to be annoying even though they may not mean it to be that way. Personally, I think I'd just ignore it and go on with my plans anyway. If anyone ever commented on how alike the two houses are, I'd joke with them about how good taste must run in the family.

dont go into detail. and you dont have to tell them everything you do. Understandable if they ask who was over, you should be honest, but find other topic's to talk about since the point is to be original and your family is tired of the "copy catting" .
Just think even though it is annoying copying is the best form of flattery and if it is not to your family, stop giving them ideas.

of course you can lie to them. better yet, tell them it's none of their business who is at your home.what is worrisome is the fact that they're watching your place so much. lots of people think they need to be "one up". always have it first or better. if you say anything about this, they'll look at you like your nuts. don't waste your energy. just keep to yourself and let your folks take care of it. do you suppose that if you told them you were doing something really off the wall to the house they would do that first too? it could be funny.

I wouldn't worry about...just keep spending their money, and when they get foreclosed on, you can pick up the house of your dreams dirt cheap.
