I was playing golf ( 1st time) and I think I injured my hand. I have a high treshold for pain so I can't tell if I fractured or have some soft tissue damage. The pain is coming from the trapezoid, trapezium, and scaphoid (area) bones in my hand.

There is no swelling or redness so I'm waiting till next week to see the Dr.

Thanks,
Andre'a

There could be a few hairline fractures. Even if you do have a high threshold for pain, you would feel it if you fractured something. Just go to the doctor as soon as you seen fit (I would say sooner rather than later).

Well swelling, redness, and/or deformities are the tell tale signs of a fracture, but you don't necessarily have to have those to have a fracture. You probably just bruised it badly, but I'd still get it checked out by a doctor.

Trust me, waiting too long can be bad. Take the time I fractured my leg and walked on it for a month before I went to the doctor. I just thought it was a bad bruise, but even the worst bruises stop hurting after 3 or 4 weeks. Half way into the 6th week I finally went and got it checked. Yeah I had a small fracture in my right tibia. yeah not good.

My son broke his hand a couple of years ago (in a fight) and although it was swollen around the bone that runs up from the pinky finger, he didn't complain of pain. My ex looked at it and said if he "could move it" then it wasn't broken. Guess what? It was broken AND my son was even playing basketball the day before we FINALLY went to the doctor. (BAD MOM!!) Anyways, apparently the problem with waiting to have it seen was that the bone started to heal--calcium buildup--in the position it was in. (That was also how the Dr. knew he had broken it 2 weeks prior to being seen--BAD MOM!) They want to re-break it by cutting open the hand, moving cartilage and putting a plate over the break. He would have needed physical therapy and may NOT be able to grip for a while. He was 15 at the time and didn't want to do that, plus the follow up surgery when his hand grew but the plate would not. I took a medical professional with me and she thought the Dr. wanted to do the surgery...just to do the surgery. He is fine today without it, but the bone does stick up somewhat and it doesn't seem to bother him at all. Since you just started playing golf maybe you twisted it wrong or used a muscle improperly. Good luck!

If there is no swelling, redness, or bruising, this sounds like soft tissue damage. A break will usually result in the swelling, redness, and bruising. Hope this helps.

A scaphoid fracture is easy to miss. I would get it checked out before next week.
