I know the type-r is rated at 500 watts rms, but I also know that some people advocate overpowering a little (which doesn't make sense to me, but whatever) and I was wondering how much you can usually overpower. I was going to power this woofer with 600 watts rms at 2 ohms and 800 watts max at 2 ohms. would i be better off running it at 300 watts rms at 2 ohms and 500 watts max at 2 ohms?

I've seen those subs paired with 600-watt mono Alpine amps many times without problems. Use the recommended box size, set the gains properly, and don't overdo the loudness or bass boost on the head unit, and you should be fine.

yes you can do that since the box is seal the speaker will hold 600w for a few minutes i don't know if this makes sense to you but i was told by a alpine tech that the woofers will hold 600,700w no problem for a few minute but 400w rms for couple of hours constant playing will damage the wofers
