Something specific to her area of study. Medical students are given a Medicine Bag with medical equipment in it. Law students a leather case for carrying brief files. Teachers often get materials for use in a classroom. A gift that the current student will use in their field will give them lots of use and they will remember that your were the person who gave the great gift to them. When all else fails get together with a couple people and buy a light portable laptop for use in anything from typing up a new resume and job searching, to keeping in touch using email....
