I have had several "violations" in the past week, and I have felt that they are undeserved. I just read a question from Philosophizer about a report that was supposedly sent in because of a differing opinion on the Iraq war.

The only times I have reported anyone have been when someone says something that is really racist or anti-semitic or otherwise hate-filled that I can't stand not reporting it. A wise@$$ comment or a different opinion - even a profoundly stupid one - doesn't qualify for a report in my book. What about you? What makes you say "okay: this is over the line and I'm reporting it"?

I only report for profanity, stalking, personally abusive language, slander. I wouldn't for racism since that's subjective. I'm a Democratic Socialist,left-wing,read COUNTERPUNCH,Alexander Cockburn, etc. Very anti-Israeli,which most people consider antisemitic. Leftists don't. Jews do. Most people aren't used to hearing Jews criticized at all. So I get that a lot. Also,I'll report vicious attacks on other people's beliefs. I don't like the way atheists behave on this site. Very rude, often more than I can stomach and I'm no Bible-thumper.

I hate Reporting they are really childish even if the user gets banned they just re appear with another account so its pointless. The thing I report here is when someone links to a virus luckily that is pretty rare. There does seem to be a lot of people that just report different opinions and target people they don't like it's really stupid

For me to report something it has to cross one of two lines:
1) Spam or Advertising;
2) Extremely Offensive

Spam / Advertising is easy, they make the same posts over and over again in every question, and the format is easy to spot.

Extremely offensive, for me, means that they have to be advocating a crime or something illegal, it has to harm someone, and it has to be so outside the realm of taste, there is no choice. It's a very hard decision to make, and one that if I have any doubt that the poster is serious and not being a dork, then I won't report it.

I've been reported several times as well for serious, well intentioned answers. I don't know if it is someone's way of attacking me personally, or what.

I never report a person or thumbs down them. I figure everyone entitled to their opinion and some do add some humor to a barrage of same answers over and over. Heck, there even been a few times I was sarcastic just to see what response people give. Some e-mail and some just ignore.

Spam/Sales - I get tired of people coming on her to promote whatever their wares/scams are.

Also, things that are extremely offensive. While I enjoy different views (and have been know to provide some real stupidity myself!), I also consider that there are much younger users who view the questions/answers as well. Those of us who are adults have a responsibility to protect the children in society to the best of our ability. It starts with the parents, but some don't watch their children as closely as they should. The children are our future - we all have to take care of them.

Additional info - I just got my first violation from someone whose subject line was "I'm pretty so please answer my question?" That was so stupid that I made a remark about her being conceited and got reported for THAT! I responded to them about it, but it probably doesn't do any good. Too bad I couldn't report whomever it was just for being a moron.

I only reported 1 person because they were spamming some site-it wasn't a link. I've been called a troll here though, rather quickly, but some people defended me. I read that guy's question & am appalled that his entire account was deleted. People can be very nasty.

I report people if they say something horribly racist or bigoted. I also report people if they are obviously harassing another user (without provocation).

I wouldn't report someone for bad language or wise@ss comments, either. Nor would I report someone for disagreeing with me!

One time I reported someone for calling me "sweetie" in a condescending manner, though. That really just pissed me off. I wrote "sexual harassment" in the comments section.

I sometimes report spam like that tard that keeps posting a link to some freaking yoga website, but I don't report people just because they have an opinion different to my own. I like pushing the boundaries though, just to see how much I can get away with.

I'm shocked and disgusted to see that several people here have cheerfully announced that they have the right to determine what's acceptable for the rest of us to read.

These self-appointed morality monitor blithely mention Yahoo TOS, 'swearing', 'insults' and similar highly individualistic issues as their guidelines, as though they're unable to contemplate that their definitions could be other than universal.

This stuff is out of control. Time to make lists, folks. I've got mine.

I only report them when their language is designed to instigate acts of violence towards others or their language is vulgar and derogatory towards others not being suited to such a broad and vast forum.
Whoa, that's a long sentence!!!
Anywho, y'all have a nice day now.
Later days.
