The reception will end around 9pm and our hotel is less than five minutes away. I like the old fashioned idea of putting on a going away outfit, but at the same time I want to show off my gorgeous gown as much as possible! What does everyone think?

Putting on a going away outfit will keep your gown from getting damaged or soiled in the hotel parking lot.. I would definately put one on... Not only is it nostalgic but also practical (Getting a wedding dress cleaned properly can be a nightmare) You can also leave the dress with your mother or Maid of Honor instead of lugging it along on your honeymoon... Ask one of them to please take it to a drycleaner of your choice you can pick it up clean upon your return...

Wait until moments before leaving the reception to change say 8:40.. Your dress will be seen by all before then.. You may also want to get a grooms traveling outfit so his tux can be either returned if rented or dry cleaned if he owns it...

For him a nice sports coat, trousers, shirt and tie... along with comfortable loafer shoes would be perfect..

For you a more nostalgic going away skirt suit..

You only get to wear that beautiful gown once in your life, wear it as long as you can - until you're in your hotel room. Once you change out of it and into the going away outfit, you kinda realize the wedding is over and it's sort of depressing.

You'll be in your gorgeous gown for at least 7 hours during the ceremony, pictures, and reception. Trust me--you'll have people who love it and have seen for a looooong time.

Put it in a bathroom or have the reception location give you a room. When the time comes, just get out of it and arrange for someone to pick it up and have it preserved.

IF you wear it to the hotel, YOU have to worry about what to do with it.

I haven't seen a bride change to a going-away outfit since the 70s! It just usually isn't done anymore, because the bride wants to stay in her gown til she drops in bed at the end of that very wonderful day!
But of course, 'tis up to you - whatever floats your boat.

I just got married a few months ago and I am old fashion too, but I just showed off my dress. I actually walked down the street in it to walk to my car I didn't want to get picked up at the front door. It was fun and I showed up at the hotel all pretty in my dress, so I would say wear it until you HAVE to take it off.

You only wear it once so enjoy it! Everyone loves to see a beautiful wedding gown. I see no need to change. It's YOUR day. Do what makes you feel special. Congrats on your upcoming nuptials.
