I used to get really nervous to- consider it a good thing because it hypes you up so that you run faster. Rather than just standing there and letting your nerves get to you though, I would do jumps- just straight up and down to keep my muscles warm and I would also do high knees- just enough to keep the blood in my body going the pace that my heart was beating :-) That's the key that I found helped- channel that energy and control it until the gun goes off- jump up and down, kick your legs, run in place- keep your body going. If you stand still it will pull you down and make you anxious rather than excited about the run.
Hope that helps some!

Well thats a really good time, but if you are looking to cut off a couple seconds, try going out a bit slower and saving some for the end Training wise, try doing 500 meter sprints along with 600s. Just something a little longer that 200s. Try doing a few 400s too, and maybe running a mile before hand to get up the endurance. Maybe work out and do an 800 for once.

Its completely normal to be nervous but somethings that help me are saying good luck to every1 before the race or just smiling. I know it sounds kinda funny or you might feel weird doing it but it will take your mind off the race or you may laugh at yourself. Its not going to be your last race and it isnt your first. You will probably always be somewhat nervous but you can make it so its less. Just relax and Have fun

That's normal. Just take some deep breaths. Try to ask yourself what's the worst that could happen? You'd lose the race is the worst that could happen. I know you want to win, but honestly, is it really going to change your life one way or the other? Probably not. I'm not saying this to sound mean...my point is you might can calm down if you really think about it in those terms.

Stretch out really well before the race, run a few 80-85% effort sprints (don't exhaust yourself), and shake out your arms & legs. Drink some water, and do your best to get your mind relaxed too.

its normal when you know the starter is about to blow the gun and your waiting to get a good start- but what i do is start getting really competitive and get everone in my race(only on my team) really pumped to run and thinking how much better were all gona do- if your pumped up for the race your not nervious anymore it turns into nervious-energy which will actually help you more in your race when your mental training is higher than your physical training.
good luck!

Warm up, relax, picture the race in your mind. Run the race mentally. Picture yourself winning.
