A Most Excellent Question.

*Nirvana is a dimension transcending time and space and thus is difficult to talk about or even think about. Words and thoughts being only suited to describe the time-space dimension. But because Nirvana is beyond time, there is no movement and so no aging or dying. Thus Nirvana is eternal because it is beyond space, there is no causation, no boundary, no concept of self and not-self and thus Nirvana is infinite. The Buddha also assures us that Nirvana is an experience of great happiness. He says: Nirvana is the Highest happiness.

Buddhism teaches that Nirvana is the highest state of being, a state of pure being. And it is achieved by means relative to the individual. Nirvana defies rational explanation and logical ordering therefore it cannot be taught, only realized.
The Buddha taught that people don’t have individual souls for the individual self or ego is an illusion.

from what I gather nirvana is obtaining spirtual bliss. You fell at one with everything and yet are nothing. You are everywhere and nowhere. It is interesting to note that Nirvana is the only form of heaven I personally have read about that is obtainable on earth.

The true buddhist believes in reincarnation, so when they die, they will return, maybe as a human, maybe as a dog, it all depends on how the lived their life.

Literally like extinguishing a candle flame. Release from our illusions, delusions and attachments that cause our suffering.
It is a state of bliss, not nothingness as we understand it. One can enter nirvana while still alive and the idea of death is a mere illusion.

It is beyond concepts, but it isn't like sleeping, "nothingness" is illogical so it is not that either... it's bliss. Best thing to do is to study it according to your level of understanding and come to your own conclusions about it. I'm not being flip, it's just that far beyond concepts that even lamas dig around for words to explain it and yet tell you to your face that words can't describe it.

Where you were before you were born.

When you can answer, "What was my face before my fathers birth," you will know what Nirvana is, until then no one will be able to explain it to you.
