I was just wondering what side of the fence do Mormons typically sit on with regard to political views? I know Senator Harry Reid from Nevada is a Democrat, but Nevada is typically a conservative state so I was just wondering....I had Mormon friends growing up and I never really thought to ask then...

Mormons, like the rest of the population are free to make up their own minds when it comes to political issues.

We tend to be very conservative, but party lines are not dictated to us by our leaders. I have known Mormons in every political party in the United States.

Typically, on a national level, my husband and I tend to vote Republican. But locally, we vote across party lines all the time.

Of all the current political parties, I like the stance of the Constitution party the most, though I do not vote for them on a national level, because I do not believe they have enough strength to win a presidential election, yet.

Our leaders instruct us to learn as much as we can about all candidates and their stances. We are supposed to make a decision about who we will support, and then ask Heavenly Father in prayer if that is the correct decision.

I think many are republicans, but they have the free choice to be able to be whatever they want so there is really nothing in the religion that says or influences what they are, but because many live in Utah and Utah is a conservative state, I'm guessing most are republicans.

Mormons are consistently Republicans. Reid is an outlier.

Idaho went 69% for Bush in the most recent election; Utah 72%, and both had higher than average voter turnouts. The two are probably the most consistent 'Red' states in the union.

I can't speak for anyone else. I lean towards Libertarian. I know my husband is Democrat. He says the Republican party is the white man's party.

Another Democrat Mormon in Congress is Eni Faleomavaega, D. Am. Samoa.

Mormons are primarily Republican, especially in the state of Utah. Bush won by quite a large margin in that state.

Today the majority is Republican. This was not always the case. The problem is the Democrats on moral issues have moved from where they used to be. Since the platform supports abortion and gay marriage, it does not win support from members.

Utah and Idaho are the reddest states in America. Most of the resident have little statues of Karl Rove on their dashboards.

If Mitt Romney gets into the White House, and he's a true believing mormon, his loyalties will be suspect, and NOT like JFK's. The mormon leaders demand utmost absolute unwavering uber-conforming allegiance to their Profits and General Authorities.

These guys are just looking for an "insider" to US government. Mitt's potential for disaster makes Hillary appear docile by comparison.

As General Authority Dallin H. Oaks once commented on PBS, "It is wrong to criticize the leaders of the church, even if it is true." You can imagine what means to a formerly democratic government.
