Do you know of any inexpensive youth hostels in England, Wales and Scotland, easily accessible by train? Thanks for your help!

There's a good number of them. In recent years Youth Hostels have undergone something of a transformation moving away from the traditional values of a basic night accommodation in favour of appealing to 'a better class of traveller'. Some Youth Hostels have effectively become Youth Hotels, particularly in the larger cities, and they're no longer the cheap overnight lodgings they once were.

To fill the void many independent hostels and bunk houses have opened up and these can be found throughout the whole of the UK and often with easy access to train stations.

The hostel most accessible by train must surely be the independent hostel at Corrour in the middle of nowhere in Scotland. The hostel IS the train station and is that remote it doesn't have a road leading to it. About a two mile walk away is Loch Ossian Youth Hostel.

These links will give you more info including the locations of all the hostels...

I prefer St. Christopher's youth hostels. They're very clean and the staff are friendly. They even offer specials (i.e. a certain amount of days for a discounted price). I had a very good time staying in the ones in London, Edinburgh, and Brighton.

they're fairly a lot a similar as hostels everywhere. you are able to both get a mattress in a dorm (many times male or lady), or you'll get a private room, with a private bathroom/bathing room. extremely some hostels will provide a loose breakfast, it isn't likely surprising, even if it is going to likely be loose.

There's some good tips here.

Other than those, you can use this directory. Go to the City or town of your choice and sort the results by price, location , star rating etc.

Many of the youth hostels in the larger centres appear as 1 or 2 star places :

e.g.

London :http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/United-Kingdom/London/

Edinburgh :http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/United-Kingdom/Edinburgh/

Glasgow :http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/United-Kingdom/Glasgow/

etc etc

You should find this helpful. btw - hostels are priced per bed, hotels are usually per room.
