You need to install it at boot up, not after the system is running. You may need to change your BIOS to boot from CD before the hard drive and you should then be able to install XP again.

Hi, I had such a experience some time back the best option here is to Format the HDD (Hard Disk Drive) after taking the necessary backup. Otherwise you will face some or other issue. Even if you format reload the XP dont download IE 7 as it has bugs and will create problems Email Clients such as Outlook Express. If you are sure, try to get format from some maintainance guy nearby.

You need to burn XP onto a physical disc then boot the computer up with the disc in the drive. What you're trying to do is the run the XP setup program (which will delete Vista) while actually in Vista itself, and that's *never* going to work as a bit of common sense should tell you.

You can't downgrade any operating system! The only way is to format the partition where vista is installed and then install xp. Don't forget to backup your files. Next time when you're trying to "see" how an operating system feels like, install it on a separate partition or use VMware or Virtual PC for it.

in case you upgraded to Vista, you would possibly want to be able to roll again to XP similar to setting up any software. or you may ought to format and roll again to XP with an finished installation disk.
