You make an interesting point. I would say many people talk the big talk, but don't try to do a thing about it. If we'd all put our money where our mouth is, and take care of children who are already on this earth, we'd be a lot better off. The world is the way it is. It's easier to rise up and scream about a cause in which you might not know what you are talking about, than it is to reach out a hand. World Vision is not the only place. There are many local charities that do a great job too, since all the starving children are not in other countries. Many are right here. When you start talking about helping people in auto accidents, you and I part the ways. The best thing we an do is get help for those people unless we are qualified to actually give it. Your conclusions are not entirely correct on that one. We can actually do more harm than good. And as far as giving a kidney, while it's very noble, it's not always something we can do. We can however reach out to others and share our bounty with them.

Nobody likes abortions.
It is, however, the choice between two evils. Abortions will happen, no matter what. In Portugal 1,500 woman died yearly, because of unhealthy illegal abortions. Ever since it's legal to have an abortion there, besides those 1,500 woman, also the suicide rates among pregnant teenagers have dropped a lot.
Those are important things to remember, when being pro-life.
I'm pro choice, because I don't wanna look at women as slaves. It's not my position to tell them what to do with their body.
However, I hate abortions. Everybody does. It just boils down to the simple question "when does life start?". You will think it starts at conception, i think it starts when it's scientificly proven a fetus can feel.
I can understand the sentiments of the pro-lifers. I also know many other atheists that are pro-life, actually. But can you understand my sentiments as well? Or do your thoughts simply stop at "sin" and "wrong' ?

yikes.
Can't even ask a simple question here without people trying to read between the lines.
People people people. Show me where this kind and thoughtful person said this should or shouldn't be LAW.
No where in this statement does it mention forcing anyone to do or not do something.
Settle down already.
Many MANY people who are pro-choice are anti-abortion. Talk to the vegan community. People who wouldn't kill a spider certainly aren't going to kill their unborn child.
BUT - they are touchy about having their right to (supposedly) clean and safe surgery.
It's true that more women die in these clean and safe surgeries than ever before. If you go to a hospital for a tiny surgery with a local anesthetic you have 2 consultations. But there's not a one for the major surgery that is abortion.
Bravo to the many brave souls who politely came forward and said while they themselves would never have an abortion - they believe it is not their place to condemn.
Bravo!
Bravo to the many brave souls who POLITELY stated their belief that abortion is murder and left it at that.
No need to rant. No need to point fingers. No need to call names.

Pro-lifers deal with abortion as a matter of civil and human rights, pro-choicers castigate them because a vast majority of them have a profound religious faith that informs their opinion.
For centuries, christians understood that the main point of the story of Jesus' birth is that the seemingly poor and powerless, lowly people of the world may turn out to be the most important people of all.
The fact that liberals tend to champion the cause of the poor, bewilders me how such a thing as the rights of the unborn can be seemingly dismissed. partly I think it is because they miss the story of christ and are predominantly unbelievers who lack hope.
For many enslaved blcks, christianity became their main defense against the moral degredation of slavery. their faith helped them to endure the depravity of the slave system without being depraved by it.
the christians who support abortion rights ,no doubt claim compassion for women and the poor. Yet they join in a movement based on the idea that those who will be born into poverty and/or suffering aren't worth saving, that they are better off dead. They implicitly accept the idea that the lives of the oppressed are worthless, precisely the view that Christs story was intended to refute. Christ demonstrated that every life has value, that every life is worth saving, because the lives the world considers most dispensible, may hold the key to its salvation. Christians believed that the little babe born in bethlehem was the redeemer, yet those in his own land didnt know who he was.
When we commit abortion , we dont know who we are killing , but we act as if we know for sure. The physical life of the mother is also very important , I will concede, and if it is threatened for sure , then I suggest we leave it up to the mother. there have been mothers who took the risk, gave birth, and died. They made the ultimate sacrifice of love.
If you are considering an abortion, reconsider. Dont worry about the childs future, she will be fed and loved by someone if not you, have faith. I know a family whos daughter was born handicapped ,mentally retarded and blind. they have cared for her always, and loved her. when her parents die, others will continue to care for her. People are generally well meaning. someone always comes through.
Liberals have faith, conservatives be patient and pray for their change of heart.
Our parents gave us life, lets let all the children have a chance. they may be the one who cures aids, cancer, or other diseases, perhaps they will bring peace to the world, or even better redemption.

When I was an atheist, I was all for anything that caused death. I figured the more people that died, the more resources for the rest of us.
The problem was, I was a complete fool and didnt realize what the true resource was, GOD. And there is an unlimited supply!
Abortion is nothing more than re-living slavery all over again. Our lovely supreme court who isnt even elected decides by a thin margin to decide that a group of people in the US are property and NOT people that are worthy of rights.
I hear all this fake concern for 3000 troop deaths in Iraq from the liberals. How about concern for the 3000 lives/day that are being extinguished in order to accomodate mans pride and fear? At least troops have a choice to sign up for the military or not. they know what they are getting into. Unborn babies have no such choice or rights.

I am a pagan and am proudly anti-abortion. I believe life is sacred and any gift of the goddess or gods should not be destroyed.
I cannot back you on the homosexuality thing though. I am constantly confused why this is even a concern. It is no big deal. Kinda like picking one's nose in private...should we regulate this? What one does with another willing partner,(or more than one), in private is no ones concern except theirs.
Respect life and enjoy life.

There are many, and many women that have been hurt by Abortion that are now against it.
Only fair to point out that many "Christians" support Abortion as well.
I am not sure how that works, but we all have free will.
Peace!
P.S. To those pro abortion, or pro-choice, it is not about forcing our morality on you, it is about protection what we believe is a innocent human life. I am an anti-abortion Christian but would NEVER want to live in ANY religious autocracy, I believe that we cannot legislate morality, but to me, this is a Natural Law question, just like rape, and robbery (and tons of others) I do NOT want to tell you how to live your life, or how to worship (or not worship).
I just think that baby should have the right to live like I did.
Peace! (again)

IF FREEDOM OF SPEECH ONLY APPLIED TO NON-CHRISTIAN'S, YOU WOULDN'T BE HERE TO BE HEARD OR NOT HEARD, IN THE FIRST PLACE. THIS COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED ON THE IDEAL OF RELIGIOUS FREEDOM AND TOLERANCE OF ALL BELIEFS. THAT'S AN APPLE AND YOU ARE TRYING TO COMPARE IT TO THE ORANGE OF ABORTION. YOU MAY FEEL IT'S WRONG, REGARDLESS OF RELIGIOUS BELIEF, BUT THE PEOPLE WHO DON'T AGREE WITH YOU ARE JUST AS ENTITLED TO THEIR OPINION AS YOU ARE. IF YOU FEEL THAT STRONGLY FOR IT, THEN JOIN THE POLITICAL MOVEMENT AND ACTUALY DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE WAY YOU FEEL. DON'T WASTE TIME WITH THE CHRISTIAN/ABORTION ISSUE. IT'S A NO WINNER.

Abortion should sort of be legal under certain conditions, but there should also be a penalty. Meaning: The woman identifies the father, they get the deed done, and both the mother and father of the unborn child spend some time behind bars. Exceptions should of course be rape, health risks, etc. Sentancing would vary based on how late into the pregnancy it happend, and how many times its happend before.

I believe abortion is morally wrong, but I don't believe in banning it. . . . And no freedom of speech doesn't only apply to non-Christians, why have Christians been saying that more and more on here lately?? Did I miss a big fight or something?
