You can add browned ground beef or turkey, or even grilled chicken, or frozen pre-cooked meatballs to the sauce. I prefer Bertoli or Classico over Ragu. Ragu old world style is really plain. I like lots of basil and garlic! yum!

Try making your own marinara sauce and using whole wheat pasta.

The sauces from a jar are loaded with salt and sugar.

Here is an easy recipe:

1-2 small fresh red chilies, according to taste (such as cascabel)
12 large pitted ripe olives, chopped
1 tablespoon drained capers
1/2 cup olive oil
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
2 teaspoons chopped fresh oregano or 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
1 lb ripe tomatoes or 1 (16 ounce) can peeled tomatoes

Slice each chili and use the tip of a knife to remove seeds.
In a glass or ceramic bowl, marinate the olive, chilies and capers in 4 tablespoons oil for at least 1 hour. Meanwhile, gently sauté the onion and garlic in the remaining oil until golden. Add the oregano.
Peel fresh tomatoes; use spoon to scoop out seeds. Chop. (Strain canned tomatoes). Turn all ingredients into a large skillet and cook over medium to high heat until the mixture thickens and darkens slightly. Remove chilies.
Serve hot.

Yes, it can be very healthy, just watch your portions. I like Classico brand. Toss in some extra mushrooms and garlic and top with a little cheese. Even the alfredo is OK as long as you don't drench it. For meats you can add ground turkey or chunk chicken to red sauce, or shrimp for white sauce.

Chicken or turkey, lean mince can be added to passata (plain sieved tomatoes) along with onions, courgettes (zucchini), aubergine, peppers - anything you like really. You can season the sauce anyway you like - things like basil are good, and garlic.

Wholewheat spaghetti is better for you, and you could serve your dish with salad if you want to be extra healthy.

Commercially available pasta sauces are OK but they can contain high levels of added salt and sugar, so it's best to make your own from scratch if you can.

Yes-tomato sauce is healthy for you. Try Amy's Organic or another organic sauce for optimal health.

You can also use an olive oil and garlic sauce with some fresh veggies. I usually have this with whole wheat linguini. Yum!!

Spaghetti sauce isn't bad for you. It's best to find one without added sugar, and maybe a variety of veggies. My favorite is Newman's Own Sockarooni.

its always healthier to make ur own homemade sauce. then u can control the amount of spices and everything that goes in it. but of course that takes a lot of work. u can also use sausage or turkey in the sauce. if u are gonna use hamburger use 93% cuz its the healthiest.

For your meat, after browning it, put it in a strainer/collander and rinse it off with water really well. It will rinse off most of the fat and oil . This works for anydish you are going to add the meat to.
