I think the black dress would be far less of an attention getter than a red halter dress. Wear the black dress.

I would say no just based on the fact that halter dresses tend to be low cut and that really isn't appropriate for a day wedding. What shade of red are we talking about though?

And to those that think wearing a black dress is classy to a Spring day time wedding - just because you did it, doesn't make it right! You're not supposed to look like a knock out at someone else's wedding. The point is to be dressed appropriately and to not take the attention from the bride.

People are not supposed to wear black to a wedding as it is a ceremony of celebration not a funeral where you mourn. Etiquette still says no. However current fashion says yes unless you are a part of the wedding party. I would choose the red halter dress over the black dress. Keep in mind you are not supposed to be a knockout as that is supposed to be the brides role, unless of course the groom once belonged to you then all bets are off!

Unless it's a deep red and not a bright red, and as long as it's a long dress that doesn't show too much cleavage I say go for it. But you don't want to take the attention off the bride, so try to go for something subtle. ;) My fiance and I decided last night the colors will be yellow and red in our wedding, but the bridesmaid dresses will be a darker red rather than a bright red so that the attention isn't on their dresses. Just remember that this day is about the bride and groom and you don't want to steal the attention. :)

Since when can't you wear a black dress to a wedding? I normally always wear black unless it is a day wedding or outside.

Teresa, Black IS FINE to wear! Like I said, ACCESSORIZE it...Can't imagine anyone stating it isn't. Can't tell you how many women, including myself, have worn black to a wedding, afternoon OR otherwise...gorgeous, chic, elegant...

Red halter dress sounds a tad bit sleezey (sp?) - unless you have a little jacket to go with it...

Black is for funerals...I don't care what the new conventions are. Red halter would make you look like a whore. If that is what you want then do it.

I would say no. Red is an attention getter and a red halter? No.

It kind of depends on whose wedding it is in relation to you, but a red halter sounds fine for most cases.
