Prayer is an active effort to communicate with a deity or spirit either to offer praise, to make a request, seek guidance, confess sins, or simply to express one's thoughts and emotions.

For me, prayer is communication with my Heavenly Father, with God. I don't always say what I want or need to say at first, but eventually I do and the relief and peace that comes when the still small voice enters my heart melts away all the stress, pain, and anguish I've held on to. I love prayer.

Prayer is a conversation to a higher being (like a god) . There are different methods of prayer: meditation,
Liturgical (liturgy of the Hours),
Formal prayer (mass,Rosary), Contemplative (wordless prayer to a high being),
conversational (individual dialougue),
Lectio Divina ( slow thoughful reading of a scripture)

Is formally saying thanks to God for the good things he has given you, preferable daily or more. If you say thanks for people whenever they give you directions and say congrats, the least humans can do is thank their creator by prayer, I am sure animals do. It would okay to ask for something at the end. But that is not the purpose of prayer. God is not a Jinny in a lamp!

To me.. Prayer is a form of communication with God. Praying to God is simply talking to God. As simple as that. One dictionary has a definition as:
"An act of communion with God, a god, or another object of worship, such as in devotion, confession, praise, or thanksgiving."

Prayer is dialog with God.
For me anyway. Sometimes I talk. Sometimes I just listen.
