You are trying to use it for some school work obviously..I would recommend going for the HP Image Zone. It usually comes with a printer but it is downloadable. It is the best u can use. Using picasa and the rest is all for fun. At the same time though u should make copies of your photos so if Image Zone doesn't do it for you Microsoft Picture it! works just as good.

Photoshop: Amazon (or go to Google and were it says More>> up by the search bar click that and go check Froogle and go search for Photoshop and find the lowest price...) But for Photoshop, be prepared to pay big bucks, because it's the cream of the crop!
Paintshop Pro - www.corel.com - pretty darned good!
the Gimp - freebie, pretty powerful, but hard-pressed for documentation

Corel PhotoPaint from Corel Draw is my favorite. Got the full ver.12 just recently through Amazon for $50! (newest ver. is over $400)

you can go to google and put picasa and it is a free download that you can edit photos with... or you can buy one from best buy or anywhere like that
