I think anyone who tells you black is inappropriate for a wedding hasn't picked up a fashion magazine or been to a wedding in the last 10 years. Death, funerals, blah blah blah. Please.

Black is perfectly acceptable to wear to a wedding - it just needs to be accesorized properly and suitable for the level of formality of the wedding. Black is classy and elegant, and there's really no reason why you shouldn't wear it.

Now if you want to wear a big black hat and cover it with black veils, THEN you'd look like you're going to a funeral.

Black and white is suck a popular color scheme for weddings now a days, I don't see a problem with it. If it's ok for bridesmaids to wear black, then it should be ok for people attending the wedding to also.

NO.

This is not a funeral - it's a wedding. It is also an afternoon wedding not an evening wedding. Not appropriate.

My point is we are talking about a plain black dress. If you want to add a cardigan or wrap - then let's talk.

no usually its not appropriate to wear a black dress to a wedding. why don't you wear that black dress but get a scarf or a shawl thats blue or something bright and bright shoes to take away from the black dress.

Um I wouldn't suggest wearing black. Weddings are a time of happiness and joy, and black is more sorrowful and for mourning. Bright, spring colors are the best for weddings.

As long as you accessorize it with white (black and white them looks elegant...) or red or goldenrod yellow, you can get away with it. Shoes, purse, hat w/scarf or belt really can be chic.

Have done this and looked sensational...

Never!

Unless you're going to some failing producer's wedding at his apartment in Manhattan. Then, it's just another cocktail party.
