US DVD players only play region 1 DVD discs. If you try running region 4 or any other region other than matching region codes it would not work. There are some DVD players that play differrent regions and plays both NSTC and Pal/Secam formats. NSTC is the format used in the US and some Asian Countries. PAL/SECAM is used in Europe and it would not work in the US or vice versa, so I suggest that you do not buy a region 4 DVD until you have and DVD player that plays all types of regions. The Sony PS2 that you bought in the US only plays region 1 DVDs.

I've played a Region 2/PAL movie on my computer but I've read that if you go back and forth between region/format the drive will lock onto one of them after a certain number of time. You get a second drive and use that for region 4 but it seems like an expensive way to go.

There's software out there that will remove region codes (making your copy all region) and also some that will transfer from one format to another. But that's kind of involved.

It seems to me it just would be easier to get your DVD in the right format/region for you.

Hi. I live in Australia and region 4 is what we use here so unless you have a multi region player that converts PAL to NTSC,you won't be able to use the disc.I think it can be adjusted to play all regions but you would have to find out who could do it.Strangely enough a movie on DVD i want to buy here is only available on the NTSC format . Although my player converts your system to my system the quality is not as good. but it has never been released on the PAL format.
So there you go we both have a problem !
Cheers.
