If I didn't have a choice, I'd have to do it.

I can't speak for anyone else... but I have yet to receive all I want from life. In fact, many things have not gone according to my desires. But I "have" to make a choice. Am I going to let my disappointments control me? Will I rise above and find a way to make disappointments tolerable... or even rise above them?
I am convinced that we are more likely to make our own problems based on events out of our control. We don't take responsibility for where we are or how we react to things around us. So... I don't get all I want from life? That doesn't mean life is not worth it. It doesn't mean that I can't find fulfillment and purpose outside of my personal desires.
That being said. We all must make choices. With the scenario you address, I would have no choice but to live in the uncomfortable situation. But... I would have the choice to dwell on my predicament and be depressed all the time... or... make the most of the life I've been given, regardless of the circumstances. Personally... I'll reach for the best... I'll make the most of it.

Pray.

God is more powerful than human boundary-makers.

What I would not do is:

(using the analogy of the cross of Christ as the upright representing boundary markers like the pointed stakes of the siege of Jerusalem in 70AD, and the crossbeam representing efforts to cleanse hands so as to reach out across territories - in practice this habit could contribute to a stressful OCD that would render one susceptible to panic attacks and rape)

try and be the crossbeam, or take advantage of the resources of somebody who is one.

have you ever watched the movie "Groundhog Day" w/ Bill murray. the way he evolves from feeling like he's stuck in that sh**hole town doing a stupid story about a stupid tradition, thats day 1. then for the next several days or weeks he kills himself in every way immaginable... still miserable. then ahaa! a moment of clarity... he changed his perspective, the way he saw the world, which changed the way he lived, changing the way he treated people and so on... once again one of my favorite sayings " acceptance is the answer".
there are many, many things that i have not agreed with, situations i felt id rather b dead than b doing this, etc.. as long as i thought that way i had closed my mind to new xperiences.

there is only one thing that you can controll in this world and that is you, your own beliefs, thoughts, and most of all your reaction to other people, places, or things. you are in controll of how u percieve life. if you think it sucks your mind dwells on all the negative ways something is "making" you feel. today i say i "choose" to ____. make the best of everything you do, choose to love your life, choose to feel alive, choose to be happy.
i read something about mind control and some reference to schindlers list or japanese prison camps of WW2. there was no escaping their reality that they had no freedom (physically). but through thought and meditation some chose to live instead of giving up and dying, they escaped the harsh reality sorounding them by visiting their "happy place" in their mind, through their minds eye.
the key is acceptance of circumstance, and choosing how you react to them. good luck its a tough discipline to adapt to because of "feelings" however its doable, smile and be greatful for that freedom u do have. your mind.

That would depend on the reason for "Having" to do it. Its been my experience that I dont' HAVE to do anything. I choose to do lots of things. Some of those choices lead to consequences I don't necessarily like, but that's the way it is. So, why would I have to stay there?

I do have to spend the rest of my life here on earth.

You do too, unless you're an astronaut.

if that was the scenario there really would be no option except to deal with it. it would almost be like your own personal hell. if you think about it there are alot of people in places they do not want to be but they cope and find joy in other things.

I would certainly try to reach out to other people who shared my predicament to create a community where we could look after one another.
