I had a dog for 12 years, he was like, my best friend and my baby and stuff, I was really close to him. I had to have him put to sleep. Since then I haven't been able to work, I hardly ever get out of bed, I don't take care of personal hygeine stuff, I just don't care about anything. I take a lot of sleeping pills just to get through the day. Am I having a mental breakdown?

listen, you don't need depression pills or any other kind of medication, I know exactly how you feel, losing my own dog not too long ago devastated me. But instead of suddenly popping pills and seeing shrinks to "fix your problem" think about it like this. You have lost something that has always been a constant in your life and seeing that thing suddenly disappear is a radical change that will hurt for a very long time. Eventually however, it will heal and you will feel better. In the meantime, why not get another dog? It will help, at least a little...

You're not having a mental breakdown, but you are in a deep depression or mourning for your beloved pet. This grief process is normal, although yours has escalated to the point where you definitely need some psychotherapy or counseling or both. As it says on the TV ad, depression can hurt, and yours is definitely hurting. Please get some help. There are antidepressants that can work wonders for your mood.

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. Our animal friends are just like members of our families. We get very attached to them, and we grieve deeply for them when we lose them. I think all of us have been there and done that at least once in our lives, and some have experienced it more than once. Once you get over the initial stages of mourning, you might consider getting another dog -- not to take the place of the first one, but to love on its own merits. Good luck and God Bless!

Yep, it's normal. It's hard to lose someone we loved and made such a big part of our life. I lost my brother and dropped into a deep depression for almost 6 months. What a wasted time.

Anyway, it's time for you to reassess your life, which you have started doing, and that's great.

You need to figure out what your goals are in life and prioritize them. What do you want in life and what are you willing to do to achieve them?

Grieving is okay to do for awhile, but don't let life just keep passing you by. Let me know when you're ready to start living for you again, and contact me if you want any help.

And, it's not a mental breakdown - don't worry!

Take care of yourself. ....

You really need to talk to a counselor/therapist about this so you can move on with your life. Losing a pet is devastating and you should get some guidance so your mental health can get back to normal again.

I am so sorry. I think it's normal. You are grieving. This is all a grieving process. Try to pick yourself up, When my dad died, I felt like that for a few months. It was a task to just take myself from the bed to the bathroom to shower. Only time will heal. My prayers are with you.. Sending virtual ((Hugs)).. Daisy

No, you lost your best friend, what you need to do is find something else to take your mind off of your loss. You might have to talk to your doctor, and have him prescribe you something that helps take your depression away. It is perfectly normal. Sorry for your loss.
