Jeff was trying to honor Dale Earnhardt by driving a victory lap with the #3 flag. However a bunch of no class hill billys threw beer bottles and trash at Gordons car. I don't particularly care for Jeff Gordon, but it shows a complete lack of class and red neck stupidity when someone throws garbage on the track. Dale Earnhardt actually liked and respected Jeff Gordon from what I understand.

2 ways to look at Gordon carrying the 3 flag after his 76th win. It was either "In your face Earnhardt fans" or it was a tribute to Dale saying he finally reached the steps that Dale walked on. Choose wisely...
I am neither an Earnhardt nor a Gordon fan. But as long as it wasn't an insult, then no harm was done and it was very sporty of Jeff Gordon's team to honor reaching an Earnhardt record that many doubted that it could have been achieved.
But why didn't he carry a banner of DW''s number when he tied for 59 poles?¿

This has been a really big issue
Most of the Earnheardt fans have misinterpreted his tribute for a...lets put it this way...Jeff: "I'm better than Dale Earnhardt now that I've reached win 76"
But it's simply not that way
They've got him wrong
I know Jeff doesn't have as many fans as Earnhardt does but at least respect the man for his tribute
BUT they go and throw bottles at him and boo at him
He says nothing, he does nothing, but he remembers someone important, someone greater than him, someone who died doing what he loved
He could've just celebrated his win, but he didn't
I really think Jeff's tribute to Earnhardt was very nice of him
I know he'll never be like Earnhardt, but he is great in his way and most importantly for doing what he did he really
I think what he did was fitting and just something great to do when you have reached the wins that Earnhardt had: To dedicate it to a man he... HE looked up to, a man he learned a lot from
So yeah, I think the tribute was really respectful

To Gordon, Earnhardt was more then a Competitor; he was a business partner; a teacher; and a friend. Sadly the friendship Gordon and Big E shared has always been grossly overshadowed by hatred Big E Fans have for Gordon.
If Gordon had not paid tribute to Big E I would think something was seriously wrong with him.

I'm not a Gordon fan either, but the tribute was really nice, it was a great thing. He's had that flag for a long time waiting for that win so that he could do the tribute. Talladega is this coming weekend, and Sunday is Dale Sr. birthday, and of all the races for his birthday to fall on, it fell on Talladega, aint that somethin....it'll be an emotional day, it's been 6 years, but he's still greatly missed.

As a huge Sr. fan, I thought the flag was a nice touch and didn't view it any other way. I don't really like Gordon but he has gotten the raw end of the deal here. He was stuck in a spot darned if he did darned if he didn't. If the flag wasn't flown we would be answering questions on how come Gordon didn't show a tribute to Sr.

I thought it was great and a wonderful way to make tribute to and memorialize the late Dale Earnhardt. It was a classy move by a classy man.

I know he was trying to pay tribute to Dale Earnhardt, but I think it sent the wrong message. However, I think he meant well. I also thought it was cool that Dale Jr went to victory lane to congratulate him.

It was a classy thing to do. How many athletes share the moment of glory in any way, and such flags are so huge with the NASCAR nation. The drunken mob that tossed bottles and booed showed yet again that for every step forward NASCAR takes, there a fools in the stands that want to have the clock broken permanently to about 1963.
