Funny, my children are well-behaved, respectful, and smart, and have never set foot in a church. Hmmmm....

I am a Christian, but am I freaked out by Atheists? No. I have a very dear friend who is a lifelong atheist - and a few other friends/ aquaintances who are. They are NOT demons, they are NOT scary, they are NOT rude or hateful - and they don't taunt me for having Faith - and I don't taunt them for NOT having Faith. I think people get freaked out by being constanty taunted on here - Christians taunt Athiests, Atheists taunt Christians. That should stop on BOTH sides.

Your kids are so great because you are a great Mom who cares how they turn out and how they behave, etc. That's AWESOME. You don't have to have a theology to be a great parent. I'm a Mom too - and I have a great, well behaved, impressive kid too. Regardless of your belief/non-belief - us Mom's have to stick together!

I actually understand it a little bit.

True story:
When I was 16, we had a new girl in our class. After a few weeks, she started to talk about God. The entire class started to laugh. We were truly shocked to see that somebody actually took that "religious stuff" seiously. Before that we simply never met those people.

Holland still has a lot of religious people, but the north of Holland, where I come from, is a truly almost complete atheist part of the country. And, being the kids that we were, we were truly shocked.

I understand now how stupidly we reacted. And how mean it was. But it also somehow makes me understand how a Christian would react to an atheist, when being raised in an almost completely Christian environment.

Sometimes it's funny... they act as if your disbelief somehow is attacking their belief by merely saying the word "Atheist". Other times it's just sad and pathetic, that so many people demand a certain respect because of the religion they follow... but refuse to give that same respect to everyone else around them who doesn't.

Yeah, I know. Two of my very close friends have families who are VERY religious catholics. One of them is (at heart) agnostic, but hasn't told his parents because he likes living in a nice house, and being clothed and fed. We have to be really careful talking about religion around them.

Makes me laugh, though, how blinded and hypocritical people are with religion. They aren't accepting of that kind of thing at all (well, not everybody, but many people). For instance, we are all metalheads, and love Iron Maiden. Ever hear the song "The Number of the Beast"? It's about a nightmare the bassist once had after watching a scary movie. Here's the chorus;
"666! The number of the Beast!
Hell and fire were spawned to be released!"

I myself am a reform jew-gone-agnostic. But for a while, I was an atheist. My parents still made me go to hebrew school (I don't have to go any more, which not only drove me nuts, but annoyed me beyond belief [horrible pun]). And yes, many people do keep going to hebrew school after their bar/bat mitzvah).

Heh heh. Unfortunately those that do might not understand this question.

It's too grammatically correct, and I won't even mention the spelling.

Dont u kno its spelt ATHIESM???

To Amy: So there was a "study today"? Now that must have been comprehensive. How did I miss that one?

They act like if we get too close they're gonna catch pagan.

The person below said we all should stop doing this. But, we're the minorities in all this, if Christians want us to stop debating on sites like this- where else will it leave us? We do it on here, and thats about it- they do it on the street corner, they ring our doorbell, they pass out fliers on the trains and buses. No we will continue to argue/debate here because its the least invasive- they can't say the same- they are 100x's more in our face.

It's the greatest threat to believers.

Other religions at least believe in some diety, perhaps the same one, so they have some common ground -(delusion)

But atheism calls out all of them

It's the new Satanism. Enjoy the novelty of it, it won't last long. They'll find somebody else to demonize soon enough.

Amazing, isn't it? I've had people look at me when I say "I'm an atheist," like I just said "I want to eat your children." It's incredible.
