Pets are loved by most people that have them because that love that they give to the pet is returned every minute you are with them. The pets are so dependant on their owners that they show real appreciation in the only way that they know how. People that have no regard for their pets give them no affection and treat them as one would a stool that is in the way and is kicked out of place. With no love towards them the pet does not respond and the owner feels let down. These owners don't walk or exercise their pets as appropriate and when the pet messes the floor, gets a kicking for it.

I don't think there is a right or wrong answer here. I think it greatly depends on the person. As for me, I have always been terrified of animals. I have recently taken in a Golden Retriever and he has completely stole my heart. I am still a little skiddish around him, but he is wonderful. I was not raised around animals and was raised to believe that an animals place was outside. For no reason should an animal be brought into the home. I am just now discovering all the joy an animal can bring. So, I think it depends on the person. A year ago, I would have said that I did not like animals. Now, I can't believe that I have spent 29 years without having the experience of a pet.

I have loved dogs and cats all my life. I am 54 years old and still after all these years it still makes me sick when I see people mistreating their animals.
I can't begin to tell you the things I have done for animals where their owners were not taking care of them.
I have gotten up before the sun rose to go feed the neighbors dog.
I have bought a dog a new collar because the owner was to cheap to buy the dog a bigger one. The older collar was so small it was cutting into the dogs neck. I didn't want the owner to say I stole the old collar I put it on the owners porch. The owner went back took the new one off and put the old one back on. The next day the dog had a new collar back on and I threw the old one far away.
One more: This dog did not have a house. Was tied to a tree. I had my husband build a new dog house and we waited until dark and took the house over to the dog. It was so happy to get out of the cold. We feed and watered the dog. The owner acted as if the house just fell from the sky I guess.
I love my dogs because they don't care how much money I make. What color of skin I have. If I am smart or dumb. I know that if I show this animal all the love I have it will give me love in return.

This has probably been mentioned before, but I'll say it anyway: Because they love us unconditionally.
As to your second question, the people who have no regard for their pets at all, probably treat everything else with that same disregard.
Of course, there's the other extreme where pet owners treat their pets better than their own family/friends etc...also wrong.

We love our pets so much because they give us unconditional love no matter what. They brighten up our days and all they ever ask of us is attention, play and food.
Some people have no regard for them because they either have no need for this love as they already have a perfect live, or because they don't believe that having a pet is like that.

I love both my pets, a black Labrador and a black cat, because the love they give is unconditional and they are loyal, to the last beat of their hearts. They are undemanding apart from food and a bit of affection here and there, in fact they give more than they take.
They are always there. There are no ulterior motives with pets, they are totally transparent.
They fulfill the need in most humans to nurture and care for something which, I am sure, is why little old ladies have cats, as they are just so like babies!
People who love animals usually make good parents and vice versa.

Because they become part of our family, are great companions,
forgive you for everything, love you unconditionally, amuse you.
Some people have had bad experiences with animals, like being bitten and get scared, or have allergies. Yet, I have met a few people that just simply dislike animals like cats, for instance, for no valid reason at all. A few people think of animals as below humans, and think they don't have souls, and so treat them less well. Some religions revere certain animals, and some despise them. So it could be religious, or cultural upbringing. It also depends on what we view as food in a culture and what we view as 'sacred' and won't eat.
In my own country when I meet someone who dislikes or hates pets that most of us love, like cats or dogs; I admittedly do wonder if there is something very wrong and cold about them though!

Same reason some folks love children, and others can't stand them.
I think it has something to do with those personalites types you know...ESTF, INSJ, blah, blah.
Some people will provide all the basic care an animal needs, but really only has the animal for a child in the house, or maybe it is a show animal, hunting animal, serving some type of purpose. These folks don't LOVE their animals. They don't see them as souls, but as tools.
Then there are folks like us, that know the quirks, the ins, the outs, we know that if we touch our kitty, and her head is laying to the left, that she is going to jump sky high out of her fur. We also know that whenever a toilet flushes, the orange kitty is going to come running, meowing, to see what is going down. And those of us that are endearing, that 'feel', relate these actions to our own. Our pets are like our children. I have pets and children, and prefer them over a man any day. One relationship, it came down to it....either the cats, or him. (after 3 years). I went to the SPCA the next day, and adopted ANOTHER cat. That'll show him.

having rescued cats I have witnessed at first hand the cruelty that some people will inflict upon animals. A group of lads beating and kicking a kitten. A cat being kicked out into the street because she was pregnant. Cat having their tails chopped off. Just a few of incidents that I have been involved with. In some instances it has taken me years to gain the animals trust. I have related about the cruelty towards cats but unfortunately the barbaric cruelty spans the whole spectrum of the animal kingdom. It is usually people who are mindless thugs that cause so much suffering to our animal friends, who do it for a laugh or just for sheer bloody mindedness. I know that I would love to inflict the same suffering on the culprits, as they do on the animals. These people need to be sentenced to longer prison sentences along with a monetary fine that reflects the criminal offence against the animal.

Because you can say ANYTHING you want to them (except mean things) and they never disagree or yell at you. They're bark is usually worse then their bite, they love you no matter how much money you have, what clothes you wear, if you have hearing problems, seeing problems, speaking problems, or any other problem. If you really show you love them, they will love you 100 times more. People that just could care less about their dogs probably grew up with parents that didn't care about them (the kid.) My parents love me and do what is best for me even if they don't have the money. That is hos I am with my cat and dog- we get our animals the (almost) top-brand dog and cat food, just because it's best for them. And, we love them and give them SO much attention. I hope you get what I'm saying. Tons of other people have answered your question- so I won't be offended if you don't choose me as your best answer.
