My younger sister wants to stop babysitting and get a job. So far, she's only heard back from the fast food places. I've always heard that girls in those jobs get harassed/grabbed by customers a lot. Should I be worried?

She's not thinking about Hooters or anything like that. Most likely a Sonic or McDonalds...possible Denny's.

YES!!!!
I worked there for 6 months and well i would have customers (men) say all kinds of stuff to me like this one This guy asked me what time i got off b/c he wanted to see who fast my skates would Reilly go. but that's nothing compared to this one guy that actually tried to grab my *** when i bent over to pick up the cup he dropped. not to minchin the other employees you got to watch out for them too. just tell here to smile and walk away, so that way they still give her a good tips. b/c that's all that really matters is that you get a more tips with out degrading your self.

sexual harassment can occur in any job place... I work in a restaurant and have heard all kinds of things, but no customer has ever physically touched anyone I work with. but there is one customer who comes in all the time and when I ask him how everything was he always says "would have been better if you were sitting next to me" and sh!t like that... he asked for one girls phone number... he makes remarks to every woman there... just a lonely dirty old man. but honestly for the most part it rarely happens so you shouldn't be worried too much.

I got harrassed at Mcdonald's all the time when I worked there. I couldn't imagine what Sonic would be like. I also worked in a family restaurant, and I never had a problem.

Regardless where she gets the job that is a possibility, the best thing you can do is inform her what to do if she finds herself in that kind of a situation. If a customer any where does that it is sexual harrasment and she can refuse service to them and inform her manager. If her manager wants someone else to take care of them fine, if the manager fires her she will have a law suite because he isn't providing her with a safe and harrasment free work enviroment.

people, despite their gender, get sexually harassed in every day places. it doesn't always have to be at a fast food place or work. it can be at a school, at a park. etc. i was sexually harassed by a coworker at a fast food place that we both worked at. not to long after that, i found a new job and haven't been back to the fast food joint that i worked at/sexually harassed at

I can understand your being worried about what may happen to your sister, but working in the public will be good for her. Talk to her & tell her to be cautious when she's on the work site & to just use common sense. If something was to happen to her, expalin the importance of reporting it to her manager/boss immediately. Sexual harassment can happen anywhere. It's important that one knows what it is & all that it entails. (verbal & physical actions)

Well, it depends on where she's working. Fast food, you're behind that counter, and at Sonic the people are normally in their cars.

Only if they are sexually not sure of themselves..usually a young woman with a straight head on her shoulders does not get harassed. If you are ugly, mean, or American, then and only then do you get harassed.
