In statues of him he is often shown with two fingers raised, what is the significance of this ?

what does it symbolise raising the fingers like that though?

why not just raise your little finger, or just your index??

That is a picture of the Judging Christ. First two fingers up and thumb and ring finger touching. He is giving a blessing. The book is the bible, of course, the part where it tells us to love one another. Jesus will, as God the Judge, judge us by how well we followed that command.
There are different icons with different names. But basically the gesture is one of blessing.

PS. The two fingers up mean the divinity and humanity of Christ. On a side note: When an Orthrodox makes the sign of the cross they use 3 fingers up and two down. The two down are the 2 natures of Christ.

It symbolises union, as well as being a blessing, two fingers together as one. John is depicted holding up one finger announcing the coming of the Christ.

I was told that this was an old convention for indicating that the figure so depicted was speaking.

i think and hope that many who use the 'horn;hook' symbol doNOT full anderstand its negative value...I believe that we Christians should maybe learn Jesus's hand/finger symbols and use them always
