Surprisingly enough, reincarnation is not a pagan idea. Belief in reincarnation was held by many early Christians, even Jesus. Around 500 AD, the Roman church decided reincarnation was bad.

Jesus affirmed to his disciples that John the Baptist was indeed the reincarnation of the prophet Elijah.

The Christian Gnostic's were destroyed partly because of their belief in reincarnation.

Monotheists actually believed in reincarnation too, there's evidence for it in the Bible, however the Catholic Church worked diligently to squash it, and so do some modern other monotheist beliefs. What is considered "pagan" predates monotheism, and many of those belief structures believed in it too.
