I went to the dentist 2 wks ago who noticed my teeth were a bit see-through which means enamel erosion. He told me to cut out acidic foods and fruit and use an electric toothbrush which I did but suddenly my teeth look even more see-through and now I'm really worried! Is going electric making it worse? Please help; any advice or info welcome - thanks!

CLARY,
CAN THE ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSH RUIN/DESTROY THE ENAMEL?
THE ANSWER IS NO.
SO WHAT'S HAPPENED IN 2 WEEKS THEN?
THE ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSH IS VERY EFFECTIVE AT REMOVING SOME STAINS. IF THIS WAS THE REASON WHY YOUR TEETH CHANGED IN APPEARANCE, THEN IT WERE THE STAINS THAT WERE REMOVED NOT THE ENAMEL.

I don't think that it's the toothbrush that's at fault. It may be a progression of the enamel loss. Speak to your dentist again about treatment options. You also need to determine the cause of the enamal erosion. I suggest you don't waste time. Your teeth could chip or break off.

Have been using an electric toothbrush for years - no problem with the enamel on my teeth.

First of all, don't listen to the guy who "thinks" that you can't remove enamel! He is ill informed. Secondly, watch out for abrasive toothpastes...they will erode your teeth faster. Thirdly, always brush up and down. The crystalline structure of the tooth is VERY week when attacked with back and forth bristles but very strong when brushed in an up and down direction. Also, stay away from fruit juice, pop, sports drinks, etc. If you drink them: do it quickly, with a straw, and rinse after wards. Finally, and only you would know if this is a remote possibility, my patients who vomit to lose weight destroy their enamel at an alarming pace. I am assuming that is not your problem.

Only use it for 2 minutes twice per day and don't apply pressure, let the toothbrush do the work.
