i have just stumbled across evilbible.com
Here is has quotes (actual, legitimate quotes from the Bible aka 'Word of God') where Jesus lies and God promotes rape and murder.
I'm not trying to prove anything before anyone gets started but wondered if anyone could deny this as it is written in the Bible!

To everyone who asked for quotes - go to the site that I say has them...there are plenty.
I think that by saying that you are trying to avoid the issue

To all the people who have said it is all about context.....
So how do you decide which has been interpretted correctly and which has been interpretted incorrectly?

OSWALD - i'm not hiding, you can have my name and address if you really like. And i'm not being intollerant, merely questioning people's view point. I tolerate everyone's beliefs as long as it doesnt harm anyone. My question is probing peoples opinions towards double standards because I am highly interested in the subject

WHY WOULD ANYONE GET OFFENDED BY MY QUESTION?
my question is entirely truthful, how can someone be 'offended' that I have pointed something out. They don't have to agree with it. that is the point of the question - TO PROVOKE DISCUSSION, TO SHARE THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS
I have just as much right to say the Bible is wrong as others have rights to say the Bible is factual. And I'm only pointing out what is written in the very same book. FACT.

This is a good one
Meanwhile, the LORD instructed one of the group of prophets to say to another man, "Strike me!" But the man refused to strike the prophet. Then the prophet told him, "Because you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, a lion will kill you as soon as you leave me." And sure enough, when he had gone, a lion attacked and killed him. (1 Kings 20:35-36 NLT)

christians will repeat the pertinent quotes from the bible until they're blue in the face, but if you mention those quotes where jesus lies, god promotes rape & murder, or any other such contradictions/inconsistencies.... they'll tell you that you are taking it out of context or some other such nonsensical answer.... like it's god will or god doesn't have to abide by the laws he created for humans.
It's all christian double-talk to try & cover up the fact that their book is a complete lie. I am amazed that they continue to delude themselves to this day even with such unexplainable events that are written in the bible.

Well here's a quote I found there:
============================================== Bible Quote for August 14
Old is New
Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment, for it is an old one you have always had, right from the beginning. This commandment – to love one another – is the same message you heard before. Yet it is also new. (1 John 2:7-8 NLT)
(This is not evil, but it is just so stupid I just had to post it.)
==============================================
The thing is, God preached love throughout the Old Testament. The two greatest commandments are to love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul, strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself. So it's an old, old message.
BUT Jesus came and embodied love in His life and death, teaching by personal example and by sending His Spirit when He left. This was the "new" part of the message. So I feel it's a deliberate thickness or extreme ignorance when the writer pretends like this doesn't make sense.

The Bible was divinely inspired but written by men and translated badly and so is fallible. It also has allegorical truth which can be ambiguous.
Theres a comic book by Chester Brown, I think it's called the Gospel of Matthew, where he takes the angry quotes from Jesus and depicts him shouting at people. That doesn't mean that Jesus wasn't a peaceful pacifist, everyone gets angry sometimes.
Maybe not all guidance that biblical characters received was from God. If a voice tells you to rape, that's not God. There's a lot of weird stuff in the Old Testament, that doesn't mean the Bible is evil. The Council of Nicea could have chosen different books to include in the Bible. There's no divinely condoned rape in the Book of Enoch, the Gospel of Thomas or the Gospel of Mary Magdalene.

All of those are so badly taken out of context it's not even funny. It's like the Mormons and the Jehovah's Witnesses using the King James Bible (a bible that reads like a Shakespearean Sonnet) to support their claims with verses taken completely out of context. People are already going to be confused by the wording of that type of Bible and then you're going to use those verses to support your claim when they're completely taken out of context. I would advise you or anyone who wants to determine whether these verses are 'evi' or not, to start at the beginning of the chapter these verses are being pulled from and read them in the correct order and context.

One could dispute the _meaning_ of the words, espcially their meaning in context. All written (and spoken) words are open to interpretation. Most people find that interpretation of select quotations is done within not only the whole of the work, but also within the traditions surrounding that work and methods of literary interpretation. No person can say, definitively "This is clearly what writer X meant when they said..." All reading is interpretation, there is no such thing as "literal meaning."

Although some will believe otherwise and try to say we're just adding our own spin on things, one must remember this - everything you read or see must be taken in context.
The Bible must be taken in context of the passage (a verse by itself is rarely enough), the time period, the historical background, the type of narrative and in other ways. Especially, the Bible must be understood as the story of God's redemption and should be read in this way - not as isolated events that happened thousands of years apart.

In the book of Proverbs, readers are advised to "get understanding." We are not to deny anything that is written in the Word of God, nor take eveything literally, but we need to get an understanding of what is being said. This can only be accomplished if we allow the Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth, as Jesus promised he would.

Jesus never lied, he was perfect in every way. He gave his perfect soul so others would be forgiven for their sins. He gave us his life. We owe our life to the Lord and Jesus. I need the actual quote. You never gave the actual quote, what verse and chapter? And for the rest of you... "The bible is something the believer can only understand". Anyone can understand the bible, and reading it and a learning it will bring you faith of the Lord.

You say you have quotes, but you don't tell us what they are. I'm not aware of any quote in the Bible where Jesus lies or God promotes rape.

It is not what you are trying to prove that strikes me but the fact that you are trying to hide who you are and what motivates you to trigger a discussion on a topic that you must know will offend many. There are many many sites devoted to promoting religious intollerance. There are many people too who would do this.
