Ones that didn't have a lot of competition did -- like Buddhism and Hinduism. The Abrahamic religions, which are exclusive, had to displace existing Pagan traditions.

In some religions, like Wicca, non-demonization works just fine. Many Wiccans view all religions as valid paths, as well as atheism and agnosticism. The only problem we have arises when members of those faiths (or nonfaiths) try to interfere with our right to practice our religion.

I would be cautious of a religion that "demonizes" outsiders - when those two words are properly defined.
Did you know there were no greater outsiders than Jesus himself, and those that followed him?
Today, Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist and Communist nations demonize Christians, and unfortunately, many pay dearly (with their lives) for their faith in Christ.

I see no reason why they would not. In fact, acceptance rather than demonization is one of the reasons that I am proud to be a Unitarian Universalist.

No of course not.
That's how religions work (and primitive societies for that matter).
There has to be an "US" and a "THEM". Even if the difference is what imaginary sky pixie is worshipped.
