I'm not crazy about it due to the slow startup time and the tiny viewfinder.
Here are the conclusions from two in-depth reviews. Read the whole articles for tons of info about the E500, including sample pictures:

For a similar budget (about $420 for the body), I'd prefer a (used) Canon Rebel XT, a.k.a. 350D, a Nikon D70 or D50, or a new Pentax K100D.

i could circulate with a Nikon. ideal now, issues could be difficult to come across for it... like some lenses and such, yet usually they're quite uncomplicated to save for. the flooding in Asia broken a number of their factories so as that they are having to re-inventory... you are able to continually purchase used. Photographers are continuously upgrading and advertising their old slightly used lenses and issues. I actually have a Nikon and that i like it. super photos. considered one of my mothers and fathers is a specialist photographer and that they've a Nikon as nicely. i could recommend getting a extra ideal end sort even with the shown fact that. it quite is well worth it and additionally you will do plenty extra. the photos you will take might nicely be plenty larger, and the digicam's overall performance extra suitable. The D80 is an incredible digicam, attempt a used digicam save on your area.

The price and features are good,
but frankly- there are better inexpensive DSLRs.
Especially for low light performance.
