I was just in a wedding, and we were tall to short, fat to skinny, and we wore a top/skirt combo from Alfred Angelo that looked good on everyone. It was simple--the top was a sleeveless shirt with a neckline like a t-shirt (called?) and the body was kind of fitted so it accentuated a feminine shape (this did look good on teh heavier women). The skirt was floor length and kind of loose, but not too voluminous...the other girls commented they liked the fact they were covered, and it was comfortable to wear all day.
As a larger woman, please no strapless or spaghetti straps. Remember, a woman who feels good about herself in the dress will both have a better time and take better pictures!

This can be tough, but doesn't have to be if you are open to something different. It's becoming more popular to choose a colour, then have the girls choose a style which suits them - one may choose sleeves, one a jacket to go over something sleeveless, one spaghetti straps. It looks very classy!
My wedding was years ago, but had bridesmaids sizes 5, 7, 17 and 19. By some good fortune we lucked out with a style of dress that was great. It had short sleeves, scoop neck, back was three or four wide straps crossed over. What saved the larger girls was the dress had a dropped waist, going down to a nice full skirt. Helped hide the tummies of the larger girls, but the smaller girls looked great in it too.

I have seen more and more weddings where the bride chooses a color and allows each bridesmaid to wear whatever style she wants. I think that that is so nice. Then each girl can choose something which flatters her, and something that she might wear again in the future.
Good luck.

Ugh, one style... Had the same problem actually 6 bridesmaids range from 2-16.... I did seperates... all the same skirt and they picked out their own top that fit their body type. That way everyone looks wonderful and is happy!!

My cousin had that problem as well. She took the 2 largest bridesmaids (one was the MOH) dress shopping. Anything that looks good on them will definitely look good on the size 4-8. Or whichever have the biggest variety in skin color. One was a fair skinned redhead, another rather dark / olive skinned with black hair.
My cousin did an emerald gown (it was a December wedding). Jewel tones usually look good on everyone. Stay away from pastels especially anything referred to as a spring or fall color. That does not look good on most people. Instead pick clear colors. And dark colors are more slimming. Overweight people tend to prefer something like black, navy or eggplant--instead of red or coral.
It had a sweetheart neck with a jacket that went over it. It looked great on everyone.
When is your wedding? If its not summer, something with sleeves looks better than spaghetti straps. Avoid strapless. and anything that "ties". I had a friend pick a bridesmaids dress that crisscrossed and looked like it had a lot of strings holding it together. Virtually backless. Her bridesmaid was not fat--but overweight, probably close to 20-25 lbs overweight. That dress could not have looked worse. The crisscross ties made her look like a honeybaked ham. It was horrible. The girl kept her back to the wall the whole night.
As mentioned before a-line dresses are great for those with wide hips. It really hides the excess in the swells of fabric.
If you look at the "plus size" wedding gowns you'll notice a lot of them have a "medieval/renaissance inspired" look to them. That is a slimming fit that flatters. The widest part of the dress is the floor.
My sis was not overweight but very curvy and well-endowed. I took her to try on all the gowns I liked and realized that I kept picking things I liked b/c they look good on me. A lot of Jessica McClintock that do not have excess fabric up top. She actually found the dress on her own that I used for my maids. It looked great on all of them. It had something like a vest look to it. Like a mans coat pulls in and has that one button in the center....it cinched in their waists and really gave them an hourglass shape. (Email if you want to see a pic of it)
Nothing clingy or satin but something that flows away from the body and something that has a lot of structure in the gown itself. A gown that can stand on its own will push the wearing into that shape--whereas a gown you can fold up will merely allow the wearer's body to flow however it wishes. If they are larger busted, something with thick straps allows them to still wear a bra if the dress doesn't have its own support. Often bridesmaids look worse b/c the gown doesn't allow them any support. Wide straps or halter straps are great for that. And halter tops look good on many different body styles.
But yeah--definitely take the hardest to fit with you when you go dress shopping. They are used to shopping for their own body and may pick something out you hadn't even thought of but you LOVE once you see it on her.

The 1st response has it right, I saw it once and I thought it was pretty neat. Same color theme, but different dresses that fit each girl best. Everyone happy and it still look elegant.
No I'm not gay, just very observant.

I've been to plenty of weddings where plus-sized girls were wearing strapless dresses. It looked fine. As long as they are altered to fit, and the girls feel comfortable, why not?

a-line with princess style lines. Empire is ok, but it tends to bring more weight in the tummy, causeing a very maternity look in my opinion. A nice floaty a-line covers most all flaws!

If you can find a certain dress that is a wrap then that looks good on most body types. Good luck and congrats!
