70 percent.Number of Americans who oppose sending more troops and are against the war in Iraq, according to a new AP-Ipsos poll. “Just 35 percent think it was right for the United States to go to war, a new low in AP polling and a reversal from two years ago, when two-thirds of Americans thought it was the correct move.” The war is becoming unpopular and most Americans want the troops out now. The Iraq war is lost.

72% are against

Against does not mean that 72% thinks we should pull out. I am against, but I am Army and I do not think we should pull out. I am against the war because of the politicians dicking the soldiers around and not letting them do their job so we CAN pull out.

So we should only go to war when it's popular? Get a clue! As you stated earlier in this war there was more support, but because change isn't happening over night we just quit?? What kind of message does that send to those out there that want our blood?? How long did the Civil War last or the World Wars?? Read a history book and see not everything has 1 year turnaround time in this microwave nation.

The better question would be "how come they're /not/ scared of them?" This is a democracy, you should be concerned about the views of a 70% majority!

There are few reasons. The flip answer would be "because that's the top most-cowardly 70% of the country, and they won't do anything but march around with signs." Another consideration is that the US does have substantial protections built into its system to shield minorities who might otherwise face systematic political oppression.

Also, you need to consider that, while a solid majority of Americans may disaprove of the running of the war, they probably all don't disaprove in the same way. While many may take a wholly passificst position, some may disaprove of the war not being faught more agressively, or might disagree with the choice of targets.

One of the most horrible features of war is that all the war-propaganda, all the screaming and lies and hatred, comes invariably from people who are not fighting... The people who wrote pamphlets against us and vilified us in the newspapers all remained safe at home.......

-- George Orwell

It is amazing how true Orwells words are. If you ask the men and women who are fighting, and I have, they say they are making great progress, they say they have turned the corner, that violence is down as compared to before, they do not understand why some politicians and AMericans have abandoned them, they are disheartened by that.

War is never popular, but once you are in you are left with but two choices, win or lose.

So really the question for you, are you a winner or a loser.

AMericans can sit in the warm comfort of their homes and listen to propaganda against the war 24/7/365, they can easily pass judgement because they are at NO RISK, agitators such as yourself continue to stir the pot for personal gain, and yet the warriors are left to suffer.

I find the sentiment you express to be fallacious and your point of view anti-american and cowardly, I think your words easily support that observation, you do not support the men and women at risk because you talk of allowing the enemy of our freedom to win, so I have to assume logically that you are against some of our freedoms, you want to control the debate, you feel you KNOW better than most what is right, and it is only your way. A very totalitarian attitude, and your post is just a plain lie.

Citing polls as proof that you’re argument is fact is a sign of intellectual cowardice. If the mob says hang him, the majority agrees he is guilty, do you suspend his rights and string him up, that is just mob thinking. It seems the intellectual lazy cite polls becasue they don’t have to defend their position on the merits because “the people” are always right. Such is the wrongheadedness of populism.

Elections at the instant are all approximately money and image. i comprehend the stance Ron Paul has made interior the Republican party, yet he will positively never win the nomination because of fact of his loss of money and scarcity of image. in this age of television, the vote casting public in many situations selects that candidate with the main air of secret, the final image. because of fact of this Kucinich is virtually disregarded interior the Democratic party, even nonetheless he stands for each little thing the electorate want. This loss of money and image will in all probability defeat Ron Paul. If Guiliano had not rolled up his sleeves and regarded to be heroic in the process 9/11, he does not be a workable candidate in any respect. He used television to make himself seem to be greater suitable than he's, a hero between the rubble, a "take value" guy. Hillary, too, makes use of "image" to her benefit, bringing interior the rather commonplace invoice Clinton to stress her consequence on the crowds, her connection with a former president who delivered us such prosperity. With individuals strongly against the conflict, perhaps the Democrats might desire to take yet another seem at John Edwards. As for Republicans, they're going to vote for the two the meant "heroism" of Guiliani, or the countless investment of Romney. till the yankee human beings demonstrate greater intellectualism and uncomplicated experience than standard, that's interior the enjoying cards.

I'm not scared of the 70% against the war. They want the easy way out.

And who are those polled? Is it like American Idol - where people can 'vote' multiple times? And why do I know NOBODY included in these 'polls'?

Opinion polls -- wow, great way to run a country in a hostile world.

Opinions are like @SSholes, erudite -- everybody's got one, and they all stink.

A national leader who governs by opinion poll is called a former leader.

NO! That's not true! We won the Iraq War. The sign said "Mission Accomplished" 4 years ago. President Bush said that all the major fighting was done and declared victory. We're just mopping up now.

Look, if it was on TV and the PRESIDENT said it, then it MUST be true! Please, get your facts straight!

Fool.

First, why do you believe Liberal polls? They HAVE their agenda. Second, if public opinion can slide around that quickly, what makes you think it has and kind of backbone? And finally, the war is NOT lost, except in the wishful thinking of America-haters like yourself and Dirty Harry Reid.
