Shouldn't be too long, especially if she's a pup.

Your vet will go through with you what to expect post-op, but I'll give you a heads-up anyway :-)

Young females tend to be quite back to normal by the next day, and completely back to normal after 3-4 days! I've also seen older females walk out the surgery just fine even after an emergency spay.

Anyway, just offer your dog her food as normal when you get her home, but don't be worried if she's not interested, she is likely to still be groggy from the anaesthetic. You should just give her a nice comfy bed, and leash walks only until she has her stitches out in 10-14 days, no galloping around!

Dog Spay Recovery

It should only take a few days, although my dog didn't seem to be the same until I took her to the vet to get the stitches out. They had used some newer procedure with stitches that dissolve and remain on the inside which was suppose to lessen the want for dogs to try and lick and chew at them. One in a few dogs has an allergic reaction to them, and it had to be my dog, so we did it to old fashioned way, with that big plastic collar thingy on her neck and everything. She crashed into every wall she went past, it was so sad. After a few days if your dog seems to be acting tired and is not eating I would call the vet back and get her back in there. They shouldn't charge you the waiting room fee because its for the same thing. Complications with the Surgery. If anything she may need some pain killers or an anti-biotic to help fight any infections that may have gotten into the body while she was on the surgery table and they had the area open during surgery, which happens sometimes.

It depends on the type of procedure you are doing. If you are going laser the recovery will be much faster but if your dog is getting a regular procedure like mine did, it should be longer but it is less costly. My Dog (Boxer named Kiki) was out for maybe 2 days before she started getting back to normal, I also got the umbrella collar which the vet will recommend so that the Dog does not lick the wound and therefore getting it infected. She was completly normal after one week and we removed the collar after 2 per the vets indication, by the way we could not bathe her either during that period. The Vet wil also give you antibiotics and pain medication make sure to administer those periodically as well. Congrats you've made the right decision.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU7rL

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

My puppy is having it done next week, but I have an older dog that has had it done. They come out of anesthesia and you pick them up the same day. He'll be wearing a plastic cone type thing around his head so he won't bother the area. I don't remember mine being sick or anything. They are not like us, he won't come home and rest in bed for days or anything. You just have to keep an eye on him for awhile and make sure there is no infection or anything.

make sure you give her a couple of days to rest and heal. You wont want to take her for long walks, or play ball with her, because you don't want her stitches to open up. You did a great thing by getting her fixed, she will live a long and healthier life! If you have any concerns with the stitching or anything you should consult your vet just to be sure everything is ok.

My pooch was spayed one week ago today. She has the internal dissolving stitches, and a glue on the external. Vet wanted two weeks of a conehead existence. I plan on three more days tops. I have given her supervised periods being free of the cone now and then. She actually seemed "normal" in about three days. Though I remain cautious, I believe she is healed. Depends on the dog but I would guess that 3 or 4 days she would be feeling better and in about a week she'd be back to her old self.

It depends on the age of the dog. Young dogs seem to bounce back pretty quickly. The first day they may be a bit under the weather but by the second and third day they can be back to feeling spry.
