It's my husband, he doesn't like hot creamy foods. He's never had soup or beans. Plus we have two small children. My son is very picky, but my daughter is not. What are some family friendly meals that I don't have to slave over

How about chicken or steak kabobs (do in broiler or on grill), corn on the cob, salad (use the bagged stuff), and sweet potato fries (or regular fries). Dessert could be ice cream with berry sauce.

I don't know if your town has one, but we LOVE using "Dream Dinners" you can check it out at dreamdinners.com. Basically it is a business set up for you to be able to go in and use their kitchen stations to create freezer-friendly meals that you can then prepare at home as you want to. Because you are the one putting together all of the ingredients for each meal, you can customize them for picky family members. The focus on these meals is healthy balanced food for busy moms.

Check it out :)

Follow the "keep it simple" principle.

Plan around the meat you're serving; vary it through different cuts of beef, pork, poultry, fish, with occasional lamb, veal, shellfish. (Doesn't sound to me like anything more exotic would work with your family.)

Find some simple variations on each.

For steak, you can simply sear it in a hot skillet, broil it, grill it. You could marinate it first (I like to use 1/4 cup bourbon, a splash of worchestershire, and a few dashes of liquid smoke), you could serve it topped with mushroom gravy or carmelized sweet onions or onion rings.

For chicken, roast a whole one stuffed or not; put chicken legs in a slow cooker with 1/4 cup chili sauce and 1 cup orange juice, let cook for several hours, and then add 1 chopped green pepper and a can mandarin orange segments and cook 1/2 hour longer. Or bake legs and smear with bottled barbecue sauce.

Then plan simple sides for each entree; rice, potatoes any way, sweet potatoes, pasta--plus a green or orange veggie for nutrition.

Vary the way you cook the sides. Take sweet potatoes; if you buy canned and cook them up with marshmallows, then here are some better ideas--buy fresh (doesn't take that long to scrape them). Bake them in their skins and serve--or let cool and peel off their jackets, cut into rounds, and saute in oil 'til brown. Or peel and cut into chunks and toss into a casserole dish with a quarter-cup brown sugar, a sprinkle of cinnamon and nutmeg, and an equal amount of diced tart apples (buy an apple peeler to save time) and bake until all is soft.

Really, it's all a matter of getting a repertoire of recipes that work for you and yours, and rotating them sensibly for variety. You'll get it down with practice.

well you can always go with pasta and add what you like. You can make you own chicken fingers i know about kids and being picky. I found if you can get the kids to help out with making food they are more likely to try it. Good Luck

How about throwing together some big salads for you and your husband (like chicken caeser or something along those lines) and hot dogs/hamburgers for your kids? Just an idea.

Make some spaghetti.
Boil some noodles in hot water.
Heat up some sauce & combine with ground beef, mushrooms, olives, onions and tomatoes. (or acording to your taste)
Strain noodles & pour sauce on top & serve!
Maybe buy some of that french bread at safeway or wherever.

Spaghetti, (Mac-n-Cheese for the kids), chicken breasts on a "Foreman" grill with some broccoli. Also, there are tons of pre-prepared fish/meat/chicken things you can microwave and just throw a salad together with.
