What is the best bike under $200. I will not spend more for a bike he will use for 4 summers, but I also want a safe bike with no issues. Thanks.

Do not buy a bike at Walmart or any other big box store, especially for a child. These bikes are of lesser quality and are not assembled by pros. What you get is a stock boy putting the brakes on your kid's bike. Not the best or safest scenario.

I'd go to a bike store locally and see what brands they have. Most shops will also include adjustments free for a period. Trek, Giant, and Specialized are all big brands that make a good product of this type. I'd expect to pay $225-250. Spend the extra money. The return in safety is well worth it. It comes to just over $60 a season for a bike. Seems worth it to me.

unfortunately there are no good bikes under that dollar amount
the mass produced junk you find at Walmart, Kmart, etc. don't hold up to much, and will cost you more than the purchase price the first time you need service or repairs

check out brand names like Trek, KHS, Specialized, and Giant
stay away from Raleigh, Diamondback, Huffy, etc.

I buy mine and my kids(7,9) bikes at Wal*Mart. Good brands, and prices and if you kid isn't too rough on it, it will last a long time.

I had a Wal*Mart bike for 9 years before I sold it. It only needed new brake cables.
