If you do not file with the IRS it sends up a red flag with them on your file and makes you subject to audit, a long and arduous task that always seems to end in their favor.

Federal prison, at some point. Or at the least the IRS attempts to do them for you and garnishes the &%$# out of your wages so you have no means to live.

If you owe the IRS then you are in danger of being prosecuted for tax evasion. However, if they owe you money and you don't file for it, no crime has been committed but you cheat yourself.
