"I didn't do it"

1. Death, either of yourself or close relative.

2. Serious illness or injury, either to yourself or to close family member, that makes it impossible to work.

3. Domestic catastrophe of huge magnitude: fire, flood, wind or storm damage, home evacuated for some reason, etc.

4. Pre-arranged lateness due to important event: sports team participation, chance to do something once-in-a-lifetime, etc., cleared beforehand with teacher.

5. You win the lottery and are set for life even if you flunk the class the paper is for.

I think that about covers the reasonable excuses.

Why don't you get off of here and do your work instead of looking for a lie to get out of your work? There is no good excuse. A fire? Ok, then the teacher/instructor checks and guess what, not only did you not do your paper, but more trouble because you lied!

I actually did have a cat eat/tear up my homework one day. I took in some of the remnants to prove it. Take in some remnants that look like it was the assignment and ask for another day (then make sure it gets done). If it is already late, then you have little recourse, the best excuses come early, not late.

There is no excuse for a late paper. Admit your procrastination (they like big words) and turn in the work.

Well, I suggest you turn off the TV, and do some work. Failing that, a good one is 'family problems'

An ingenious one is of course 'you wont believe me but my dog actually DID eat it'

finally why not appologise as much as you can, and really criticise yourself in front of your tutor, eg. 'im such an idiot, i am a faliure, i hate myself etc etc showing a serious lack of self esteem, and they will feel sorry for you and give an extension

you wrote the whole paper but then suddenly, all the words disappeared! DISAPPEARING INK!! that rotten cousin Alfie must have switched pens. then you had to re-write the whole thing over in proper ink, but in the end you succeeded and managed to get it turned in only a little bit overdue. bravo.

sure, tell the certainty. "I make an apology as I neglected the time shrink." Ask them what the repercussions are. they won't do something, yet a minimum of you're being truthful and that's a stable element.
