I personally think its nearly impossible to just "become" a NASCAR driver. I've driven a dirt car for years and I've seen many local guys who were real good and they tried to move up to regional series or whatever and they stunk. There are so many VERY GOOD drivers out there that it takes more than that, like say A BIG BREAK, or your family being in the sport like say maybe your daddy building a cup team for you to drive at and you never having to earn your spot...
But start out driving whatever you can and if you win enough, maybe you can move up and catch someone's eye.

I agree with what the first two poster said.I spent 5 seasons working for a couple of different teams before I started my own and I would have never made it this far if it wasn't for what I learned from them. One thing you'll learn real fast is racing can easily turn into a 7 day a week job.Like tonight I'll get off work go home and change clothes and head to my shop taking my sacked dinner my wife made for me to eat when I get time.I love racing but I think it's important for someone who wants to get started to see the other side of the sport...the side you don't see from the stands and you won't be able to trully understand till you do it.Another thing is,start small.I race dirt latemodels and to often do I see someone with a bunch of money job into a higher division without starting in a bomber or pure stock, etc and learning the ropes first. This is no lie,I have a friend who won the lottery,he wanted to race so he started in our local truck division even thou he has the money to run whatever he wants, and he learned and has now become a good driver and is thinking of moving to the sprints.Thats the smart way to do it....work your way up....you'll be a better driver by doing so.

Getting started in racing is relative easy if you have the money. The first thing you have to do is find the closest race track to you and go see a race. Go to http://chasinracin.com/track-locator/states/index.shtml and use the race track locator to find the closest track to you. Go to the track and watch the races. Go to the pits (you can normally do this at local tracks after the races) and talk to the drivers.
Almost all track have a beginners division the can be called bombers, thunder cars, thunder stocks, mini stocks, pure stocks etc. These starting divisions normally have plenty of cars for sale or are simple enough that you can build one yourself with a little mechanical ability.
Starting divisions are designed to get and keep people involved and to give them a shot at racing therefore the rules are designed to keep the costs down and you can normally get on the track for as little as $1,000.
I would recommend though that before you run out and get a car that you spend time making friends in the pits your gonna need them! Spend time watching winning teams and how they run their operation. Spend a season on a pit crew helping another team. I’ve never known a team to turn down free help! What you learn I guarantee will be invaluable in your own career.
Anyway, that’s a brief description of how to get started in racing. Remember in racing it’s all about money and who you know (some ability does help though). Get used to working the pits and getting to know people. You never know when you’re talking to a future sponsor or someone who can help you move up into the next division.

Start as a Nascar fan, then you just start as a go kart racer, then you race at there local NASCAR Weekly Series track, then if they really inpressed
You move up to the Arca Remax Series or NASCAR East Series, Then to Truck or Busch. Then if they are really really inpressed with your driving style they will let in to Cup, get some good first three or four years, drive till you get offers from NASCAR'S biggest teams and Win.!!! but... to have the skill to win you need racing in you blood and heart.
