A prophet whether biblical or modern day is someone who speaks for God. The meaning has become corrupted over time to mean someone who foresees the future. Sometimes God would give warnings for the future through prophets but often just spoke into their daily lives. Prophesy is a gift of the Holy Spirit and there are many modern day prophets.
