How do you feel about it? I live in a rural area where hunting is a big deal and now the local WM store has pulled the guns and ammo, saying they were not making money. It is always one of the busiest department where I shop, especially around hunting season. I think they bowed to pressure.

Please, to "a_person", if you are going to try and argue about hunting at least learn how to spell correctly.

The WalMart by me (Bucks County, PA) pulled the long arms about a year ago, they still sell ammo, but I doubt for much longer. The day the pull that is the day I stop shopping there. Its a real shame, I got my favorite pair of hunting boots there last year (I wanted a "back up" pair, ended up becoming my primary).

A_Person, I've YET to see a bunny hugger win an argument with a hunter. Judging by your spelling, I doubt you'd fare all that well with the least educated contributor here, not to mention your average or highly educated hunter......

Yes Walmart pulled guns from Sun Prairie, WI. The ammo is dwindling which leads me to believe it will be gone too.

As for it bothering me...not too badly. I only buy commercial 22, 12 gauge, and 338 Winchester Mag. I buy my 22 for a little more at Mills Fleet Farm. I get 12 gauge at Dick's for a penny cheaper (2.98/25) and 338 I buy at a local gun store (ammo box) for about $25 (walmart never had this caliber). I have now started reloading 338. My other guns are military surplus which I purchase surplus ammo online. Plus when I do get any empty brass which I ocassional range pick, I will load that as well.

I think you are right on walmart stopping gun sales because of pressure. I'm not sure if it was internal from high up walmart employee's or pressure from anti-gunners, either way it is sad that some of us lose a supply of affordable guns and ammo.

Yes, the pulled guns from several of the stores in my area. One stores still sells guns. All the stores still ammo. I wrote a complaint to Wal-Mart and they told me it was for financial reasons.

I spoke with the guy behind the former gun counter at Wal-Mart (the counter is still there and he sells ammo and hunting/fishing licenses). He told me Wal-Mart was sued from a gun traced back to their store. The gun had been transferred several times illegally after it was legally purchased at Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart has taken a beating in the popular press over labor practices, etc. so not selling guns and becoming more like "Target" or higher end stores might help their image.

It's a shame as many rural people have shopped Wal-mart for years for cheaper guns and ammo.

Yes there is a big change to walmart not about the customer any more. Each area (Region) is discontinuing departments. Here they are not discontinuing the guns BUT most of the fishing stuff is discon. Go figure lake all around and Ocean 2 hour drive. Bean counter make this choice for them. THey are usually 9-10 times wrong. Some floral departments are going away, Fabrics are going, Jewlery dept cut in 1/2 Everyone needs to make a call to the home office to complain in Ark. They do listen to those believe it or not. So everyone get out your dialing fingers. Only way to make a diffference.

Yes they did pull all there stock off the shelf about three weeks ago.I had been looking at a Ruger 10/22 for awhile and decided to go buy it.I got surprised to find all the guns were gone when I went in to get it.The store didn't give any notice or put up any kind of information about the change. The only kind of gun you can buy at Wal Mart in town now is a BB gun. This was the best place to buy a firearm in town. Now I will have to drive about 45 miles to a bigger town with a sporting goods store to purchase a gun. That sux.

Some yes, some no, but there are a dozen Wal-Mart stores within twenty miles of me. Well, guns anyway, none have gotten rid of ammo that I know of.

Just because a department is busy or selling a lot doesn't mean it's profitible, and store (and department) managers pay is based in large part on store (or department) profitability, especially over the course of the whole year.

Yeah, Wal Mart where I live remodeled, last year, and when they did, they took out all of the guns. They still sell ammo, but no guns. They still sell BB guns, but no rifles or shotguns. I was kind of shocked, too, because the town I live in isn't really that big, and they did pretty good business with guns. They were always almost out around Christmas.

No. The ammo is behind a locked case, but you can still get it. In fact, the local Wal-Marts here sell hollow point ammo as well.

You should move to Nevada!

Some have and some have not. One has a good selection of guns, and not much ammo. Another has a good variety of scopes, and still another has the best selection of ammo.

I hate to see them pulling the guns. They might be making a mistake. Remember when Sears sold guns and all types of outdoor gear? Now tell the truth, who shops at Sears anymore?

yes here in southern ohio they pulled the guns and ammo. i will not shop and or let my wife shop there any more. she just as angery about this as i am. we both are hunters and fishers. and we both enjoy target shooting. yes they bowed to pressure. my wife was a department manager for 10 year there. she no longer works there. walmart is going the way of k-mart. get rid of guns, ammo, hunting gear, you lose the money of hunters and shooters.
